Asia Monae Carlton

Hi, Asia Monae. We’re so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m an artist born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania. I began singing and acting at the age of three. As a teenager, my passions were reinforced as I started recording original music and starring in neighborhood films in the peer mentor group Team MAC (Making A Change). I studied music at Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey. Still, I ultimately took my talents to Los Angeles, where I graduated from the American Musical & Dramatic Academy with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After graduation, I began to write and produce original films and web series while continuing to create music. During the COVID-19 epidemic, all production stopped, and I reconsidered who I was and what my art should reflect. Through revelation from God, the vision and purpose for my art shifted. From that revelation, I made my editorial debut, “I’m Good: Overcoming the Promise of Pain,” released in 2021. This book highlights my journey of pursuing my dreams and how God intercepted my plans to introduce me to a better one while healing my heart. From 2022-2024, I spent time in Chicago, IL, working in the nonprofit sector mentoring children. I was reminded of my love and appreciation of mentorship. Now that I’m back in Los Angeles, I will be continuing mentorship in the classroom with preparation to launch a non-profit production company  focused on discipleship, mentorship and the sharing of testimonies.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road has been anything but smooth. I’ve undergone several tough transitions, each of which has played an integral role in maturing me. I’ve encountered grief, homelessness, hopelessness, unhealthy relationships, and addiction. God has been faithful in overcoming all of these!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I’m most proud of is the shift in my perspective. I used to crave the attention of the stage simply to inspire others, however I recognize that my gifts are instruments that help reveal God’s love for his people and his desire to redeem them to himself! This excites me! I’m deeply passionate about making a real difference in the way we consume and produce entertainment.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When it comes to networking and mentorship, I think it’s important to have a vision of where you are headed so that you can align yourself properly. I wholeheartedly believe in divine connections. What has worked best for me has been gaining clarity through prayer about my main goal. Once I discovered that, the mentors literally appeared! It’s a testament to the power of divine connections, and you will be surprised to find that clarity in vision draws the right network to you.
