Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Green.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
About midway through my corporate career, I experienced burnout. Although I enjoyed the work, the pace to play in corporate Human Resources was rigorous at times. Seeking a way to create more balance in my life, I began to explore wellness options. One of my favorite things to do? A spa day! I ultimately made an exit from the corporate role to work as a Human Resources Manager at a local spa, then purchased a spa about a year later. Pampered in Oakland, CA, was my first business, where massage and nail care were being offered by the previous owner. I quickly realized skin care was a highly requested service, so I obtained my license as an Esthetician. At the time of the Housing Crisis in 2008, that business closed. I made a pivot to sales, education, and training for a number of professional brands, along with relocating back home to the Los Angeles area. There were times I had to supplement my income with corporate contracts, but I never lost sight of the ultimate goal: to be an Esthetician. I opened Angela Green Skin Care, November 2023 after a corporate layoff. I am very proud of the skin care services I offer to support clients with their skin care and self-care goals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road! There were weeks when I would work 40+ hours on a contract position then travel on a red-eye flight Friday night, work a weekend spa trade show through closing on a Monday and fly home for a late arrival. Then arrive to work on a Tuesday morning. All of this while raising a son and doing my best to have a life! Through it all, skin care became my “happy place”! Trade shows, spa parties, renting space on weekends to see clients, testing and trying new products were all things that kept me current and up to date on the latest spa trends, products and treatments. I am being an Esthetician at all times, including my own lifestyle habits and skin care practices.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Esthetician. I specialize in improving and maintaining the health and appearance of the skin through treatments and wellness recommendations. Clients come to me for a sensory experience that balances skin care treatment and restorative massage to improve the condition of the skin. As an ethnic skin specialist, I understand ethnicity and how it affects the skin function and structure when melanin is a factor. I am grounded in my approach to achieve true skin correction and long-lasting results for better wellness outcomes overall. Great skin is so much more than treatments and products..it’s a lifestyle!
I am very proud of my recent decision to launch a skin care line: a.dot skin care. Hydration is the key to unlocking healthy skin. Well-hydrated skin functions better, supports the absorption of active ingredients, and provides a genuine glow that many are seeking to achieve.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For Estheticians just starting out, I recommend taking entrepreneurship and business courses. Your business is not the place to practice. Consistency equates to trust with your clients. Know your numbers! I have a private group for Estheticians: The Angela Green Esthetician Collective. This is where we discuss financial literacy for Estheticians. The most popular digital course is the Cost Per Service Worksheet, which has helped 1,000s of Estheticians create a pricing strategy that allows for a profitable business model.
