Daily Inspiration: Meet Angela Drown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Drown.

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a third generation Los Angeles native. Growing up as a dancer and performer, the language of the body has always been inherent to who I am, and in my view, of utmost importance. After attending UCLA majoring in world arts/dance I attended massage school. I started at the bottom working at cheap places, working my tail off through thick and mostly thin. This year is my 20 year anniversary of being a massage therapist and I’m proud to say I’ve been been building my own business since 2019 and finally get to do things on my own terms, I now see several celebrity clients and am occasionally affectionately known as “the wizard.” I am passionate about learning new, often very subtle modalities such as craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation (the guts!) and lymphatic drainage. My passion is showing people that where they feel discomfort might not actually be the source of the discomfort.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Massage is flooded. When you first start you are just floating in a sea of often mediocre therapists. Standing out and feeling your worth among that is a challenge to say the least. And let’s not even get into the way massage can be seen in our culture. When I first started if you wanted to work in the city of LA you had to actually get an STD test.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I believe that magic is in intention, and regularly practice candle magic, crystal magic and jar magic. I am also passionate about animal rescue and have fostered countless cats and kittens over the years. While I do not anymore it’s still very dear to me. Also my grandfather was a bit a historian of Redondo Beach, and the history of Mexican Americans in Redondo/los Angeles
