Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Basilyan.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into the event industry began with a passion for creating small, meaningful details party favors and traditional wedding displays each designed with my signature touch of sparkle. At the time, I was balancing a full-time career in Human Resources, attending college, and raising a family. Although my dream was to become a stay-at-home mother, financial responsibilities required me to continue working, so I nurtured my creative pursuits on the side.
In 2011, I had a pivotal idea that would transform everything. I designed a six-foot-tall birdcage and reimagined it as a decorative card box, specifically catering to the Middle Eastern community, where monetary gifts are traditionally given at weddings. I saw an opportunity to create something both functional and visually striking a statement piece that could hold a large volume of envelopes while enhancing the overall event design.
I shared the piece on Facebook, and the response was immediate and overwhelming. The design quickly went viral, generating a surge of inquiries and rental requests so much so that the original piece was fully booked almost instantly. Recognizing the demand, I quickly created a second piece, marking the beginning of what would soon become a thriving business.
From there, I expanded my inventory of rental items and began designing and selling custom bridal accessories. As my work gained traction, I launched an Instagram account, which has since grown to over 283,000 followers. My designs have attracted a diverse clientele, including celebrities, and have been featured in prominent media outlets such as TMZ and In Touch. My work has also appeared on major television networks, including VH1, MTV, Bravo TV, and E!
Today, my business has evolved into a full-service event design and planning company. I create large-scale, show-stopping installations, including cakes exceeding 15 feet in height, elaborate centerpieces, and custom wedding accessories. I am proud to have produced some of the largest prop pieces in the country, many of which are intricately adorned with crystals.
Currently I am hired to go across country to produce events with my items. I have traveled to NY, NJ, FL, Atlanta several times and currently I am in conversations for more events outside of California!
No matter the scale of the project, my signature remains the same: every creation is infused with a distinctive touch of glamour and sparkle what I proudly call my signature “bling.”
I plan to continue to grow and spread a little sparkle where ever I can.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my greatest challenges has been finding balance being a hands on mother while also growing and managing a demanding business. I truly value being present in my children’s lives. I love cooking for them, maintaining a clean and welcoming home, and actively participating in their day-to-day experiences. While I feel fortunate to now work from home and have the ability to be both an engaged mother and a business owner, that balance comes with a significant amount of pressure something I believe many mothers can relate to.
Another ongoing challenge has been managing the physical demands of my business, particularly the inventory. Operating from home often means sharing my living space with large scale pieces and materials, and at times it feels like I am simply running out of room.
To make it all work, I’ve adapted my schedule in unconventional ways. I often work around the clock, frequently dedicating late nights and even the middle of the night to my business so that I can prioritize my children during the day. While it can be exhausting, it’s a rhythm that allows me to stay committed to both my family and my passion.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As mentioned earlier, I am a creator whose work is rooted in a signature aesthetic centered around “bling” it is the common denominator in everything I design. Whether I am creating a large-scale cake or an elaborate event installation, each piece is thoughtfully detailed with sparkling elements that elevate its visual impact. My work is driven by drama, grand scale, and the pursuit of creating one-of-a-kind, custom pieces that are not easily found or replicated.
Every item I produce is handcrafted, and I take immense pride in that level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. For me, it’s not just about the final product, but about the artistry and dedication that go into each creation.
What I am most proud of is the scale at which my business has grown. In the beginning, not many people believed in my vision. Today, seeing that vision come to life filling a 26-foot truck with my custom pieces and traveling across the country to serve clients who truly recognize and value my work is an incredibly rewarding experience. It is a testament to perseverance, passion, and staying true to my unique creative identity.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I have always been open to collaboration and have collaborated before, as I believe some of the most exceptional creations emerge when two creative minds come together. Combining shared vision, experience, and artistry allows for the development of truly extraordinary pieces that push boundaries and elevate the final result beyond what one individual could achieve alone.
Pricing:
- My pricing varies widely depending on the scope and scale of each project. I create smaller accessories starting at approximately $65, while larger custom props and full-scale event designs can reach into the thousands. Because each piece is uniquely designed, it can be difficult to assign a fixed cost upfront. What makes my work distinctive is its fully custom nature. I collaborate closely with my clients to design pieces that align with their vision while also respecting their budget. By adjusting the level of intricacy, scale, and detailing, I am often able to tailor a design to meet a range of price points. I am mindful that what I offer is not a necessity, but rather a luxury service. With that understanding, I make a conscious effort to work within my clients’ budgets whenever it is practical and mutually beneficial, ensuring that both the creative vision and overall experience remain exceptional.
