Daily Inspiration: Meet Alicia Baby G Kolova

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Baby G Kolova.

Hi Alicia Baby G, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Siberia, where I grew up with my father, who instilled in me a deep love for art and music. I was one of the top students at art school and hold several formal art degrees. I love art in all its forms and am in a constant state of exploration and growth — it is never enough for me.

I moved from city to city, traveled through different countries, and eventually, due to various circumstances, relocated to the United States. Here, I continue to search for myself and my place as both an artist and a musical performer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road. My path has always been difficult, marked by constant obstacles and tests. When you are born into a poor and unstable family, many doors are closed from the very beginning, and breaking through becomes extremely hard.

I can’t point to a single defining struggle, because there have been many — and they continue even now. I couldn’t remain in a country where artists can be imprisoned for their work. Yet after coming to the United States, I was detained by ICE and spent seven months in detention, where I was treated without dignity and psychologically broken. During that time, I lost my rented apartment along with everything I owned.

At my former workplace, my professional equipment was stolen and damaged. At the moment, I am living out of a car and have no real opportunity to create. Art is not just my profession — it is the only thing that allows me to exist.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My primary specialization is tattooing, as well as creating visual art across different mediums. Most people know me first and foremost as a tattoo artist and recognize my work by its distinct visual language and hand-drawn signature.

However, as an artist who is deeply self-critical and constantly evolving, I am deliberately expanding beyond tattooing. My focus is shifting toward oil painting and creating artwork, album covers, and merchandise for musical artists.

What sets me apart is that my work is not driven by trends or market expectations, but by an internal necessity. I am not interested in repeating myself — I am interested in building a world through art. I see my practice as a continuous search for truth, form, and meaning, even when that path is uncomfortable.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would like readers to understand that my work is not about aesthetics alone. It is born from pain, endurance, memory, and transformation. Emotional strain and inner rupture have become sources of my creative energy — without art, I simply would not exist.

Art is not just what allows me to survive materially; it is what keeps me alive psychologically. It gives me a language when words fail, a way to hold myself together and to express what would otherwise remain unspoken. Even in darkness and suffering, I am able to see beauty — and transforming that beauty into art is how I endure.
