Conversations with Unspokenviews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Unspokenviews.

Hi Unspokenviews , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My earliest memory of music is being around 5 years old and singing the “Boy is mine” by Brandy and Monica with my Auntie, whose voice is such a powerhouse ! I didn’t know then that I would fall in love with music the way that I have over the years but my draw to music has always been present. I remember the first time I ever recorded a song ( on Windows Movie Maker) and it was the beat to Beyonce’s “Hollywood”. I was so proud of it, and uploaded it to my Myspace page. In that moment, I knew that sharing my music with the world was something that didn’t scare me, once I knew what that feeling was I was never nervous about recording a record. I had to get to a space where I could be consistent in music, it wasn’t until 2017 that I put out my first studio recorded project (Carol Drive). Ever since that year I’ve continued to be present and fully committed in my music career, constantly finding ways to push myself to the next level.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I became a Mother at the age of 17, but being a parent was never something I had to consider prioritizing. My child is always my first priority, anything after that is second. Even with that mindset I did not let that steer me away from pursing my dreams. I’ve gotten to share space and experiences within music with my daughter that it never really felt like a “struggle” when it came time to how I would be balancing my time between home life and music. I just knew I had to figure it out, which I have throughout time. Yes, that meant sayin no to being able to do certain things or perform somewhere but I have no regrets in that matter. I knew I was taking the long route when I decided to choose this as my career path, but I’m blessed to have the love and support that I do so that I am able to keep going. Shoutout to my wife, without her, a lot of what I’m able to do would be much harder to manage, she definitely is my backbone in all of this.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I sing and I rap, as far as my specialty it’s the way I approach music. It’s never one way, or one specific sound, but when you hear it , you know its Unspokenviews. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come and how I can listen to my discography from the first project to what I have out now, and hear the progress. Hearing what consistency and intention has gotten me is a feeling I can’t put into words, but it feels damn good. I would say the thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I move when I feel it’s time to move. I don’t feel the pressure from the internet, or what may be going on around me at the time. There’s a certain level of patience and discipline that I obtain so that I don’t get antsy or feel like “I’m missing out” because I might not be active in ways that most artists are today. I have to be able to take my time to be able to deliver the best from me for people who anticipate and support what I do.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see my music taking off in ways that I’ve been imagining since I started. I mean who doesn’t want to win a Grammy for a vision that started in a small room? Andre 3000 said it best ” Great things happen in small rooms”. I just want to be able to look up and say I did exactly what I said I was going to do, and did it in a way that made sense for me as an artist.
