Today we’d like to introduce you to Sound Siren
Sound, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Sound Siren, an electrifying new band led by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Chris Poulson, renowned for his role as the former drummer of the acclaimed rock/pop band Rock Kills Kid, who signed with Fearless Records in the early 2000’s, then later Reprise Records. Debuting in late 2024, Sound Siren boasts an exceptional lineup featuring Aaron Bolaño on lead guitar, Lucas Caputo handling guitar and backup vocals, Alex Grossfeld on bass and backup vocals, and Jeff Samataro on drums. Together, they create a powerful fusion of pop-punk and pop-rock infused with alternative elements that captivates listeners. Sound Siren’s sound draws inspiration from bands like Simple Plan, Sum 41, Blink-182, New Found Glory, Foo Fighters, and Jimmy Eat World, ensuring they resonate with fans of all ages. Their music is not just catchy; it’s an anthem for anyone looking to embrace the vibrant energy of rock. The band burst onto the scene with their debut single, “The Other Guy,” in September 2024, followed by the gripping tracks “Parasite” in November and “One of Them” in December. Their latest release, a heartfelt rock ballad titled “Time,” debuted on January 24, 2025, and has already begun to make waves. But that’s just the beginning—Sound Siren has a lineup of exciting singles and a full-length album produced by Taylor Carroll of LIT on the horizon. The band signed with R-AVED Entertainment management shortly after their debut single “The Other Guy” was released. The band has two endorsement deals, one with the ever-famous guitar strings and accessories company, Ernie Ball, and the other with the San Diego-based clothing company, Dirtbag Clothing. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
CHRIS: There were times when I wished someone had told me that the music industry isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. It can be quite challenging and filled with unexpected surprises. However, it’s important to stay aware, expect the unexpected, and perform your job to the best of your ability. No one can take that away from you. Finding happiness and enjoying what you do are essential. Nonetheless, the freedom to play the music you want isn’t always guaranteed. The music business can be tricky. Despite this, as long as you can express yourself and be your true self, happiness is sure to follow you on your musical journey or in any other pursuits you undertake. To me, that is the essence of true success!
JEFF: Anybody who says being a musician is a smooth road hasn’t been a musician for very long. Being a musician builds thick skin because you’re constantly getting looked over, ignored, ghosted, or flat-out disrespected. You just have to work insanely hard, keep going, and believe in your abilities. The only way people fail is if they give up.
LUCAS: It hasn’t been an easy road by any means. I took a break from playing in bands in the latter half of my 20s to pursue film school and other types of creative work. Now, playing again feels like a homecoming.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
CHRIS: I am originally known for my drumming and backup singing with the pop/rock/punk band Rock Kills Kid, but I have gained more recognition for my singing and qualities as a frontman. I’m most proud of how I have stayed in music for as long as I have; perhaps it’s because I know I was born to do this and would feel lost without it. What sets me apart from others is my persistence to never give up, regardless of what others say or think. I create my own destiny.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to embark on a solo project, releasing several songs that I had written but never published. From 2021 to 2023, I hit the recording studio to put those songs out into the world. Despite facing challenges, I maintained my passion and ambition. Eventually, I set the solo project aside, as I always envisioned starting a new project with a full band behind me.
In April 2024, I connected with producer, friend, and fellow musician Taylor Carroll from the rock/pop band LIT to work on a full-length 10-song LP. This collaboration marked the beginning of Sound Siren.
JEFF: I started playing the drums when I was 11 years old. I was an Allstate musician all through high school and attended music school. Afterwards, I graduated and started working professionally. I’ve been a band director for grades K-8, an adjunct professor of percussion, a private instructor, a director of a nonprofit community music school, and a touring musician/performer. I moved to Los Angeles in 2024 because I wanted to hang with the big dogs.
I’m a professional drummer. I’ve done video shoots, drum tracking, live performances, touring, private lessons, and group percussion lessons. The thing I’m most proud of is ever since I was a kid, I’ve had people older than me telling me that being a professional musician isn’t a reliable or sustainable way to make a living. I’ve proven them all wrong and have had a great career. I love what I do and don’t let other people tell me what I can or cannot do. Being a musician builds a lot of character and resolve.
LUCAS: If I’m known for anything, it’s probably my vocal harmonies and melodic Midwest emo-inspired guitar riffs. I’m most proud of the collaborations over the years with some incredible musicians, touring the East Coast, and playing Starland Ballroom — that was for sure a highlight of my music career.
I got my first guitar at 9 years old, started lessons at 11, wrote my first original song at 15, and started my first band at 16 and I haven’t stopped writing since. Singing was something I came to by accident — a metal band I was in needed a singer and my co-guitarist arbitrarily said I should do it. 12 years and hundreds of YouTube videos later, and I still love it. Music has always been inside of me and always will be.
