Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lu.
Hi Ryan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hiii my name is Ryan Lu, @e.mo.tions on TikTok + Instagram. I was born & raised in orange county, CA and I always knew since I was a child that I wanted to be a performer. I wanted to entertain. I didn’t care what the medium was — acting, singing, dancing, content creation — I just knew I wanted to make people feel a type of way and entertain them on a larger scale. I grew up on Disney Channel and pop stars and as I watched them I knew I wanted to be them and be the one performing. I had these reallyyyy big city dreams but I didn’t know how to make it or get there until I decided to fully just go all in on TikTok and I made content every day hoping something would stick. In 2020, my first TikTok video blew up and it all kinda just took off for me from there. I moved to New York City for about 2 years before moving to Los Angeles to continue to pursue my entertainment career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Growing up, I didn’t see many queer Asians represented in the media, and that made me question whether this dream was even possible for me. But it also motivated me to become that representation for others. When I first started creating content, there wasn’t a rulebook or a guide — I had to figure it out as I went. I made plenty of mistakes, but each one taught me something valuable. Like any career in entertainment, the challenges are part of the process. What matters most is how badly you want it and your willingness to keep going despite the setbacks.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a creator and my content focuses on affirmations, manifestation, astrology, spirituality and tarot. I’m also the host of my podcast, delulu with ryan lu. I’m most proud of how my work impacts people — I love hearing about how my videos give people hope or make them laugh or make them feel some type of way so they can go achieve their dreams too. I think what sets me apart from others is that I bring hella virgo energy to this type of work so I’m blunt and strategic. I’m very intentional with everything I do.
What matters most to you?
Connection. I think the purpose of life is to connect — with yourself, with others, and with the world. Everything I create comes back to that. I want people to feel seen and inspired through my work, and I want to create spaces where people can connect with each other and with themselves.
