Conversations with Paulina De La Paz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina De La Paz.

Hi Paulina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in a small town in the north of Mexico called Chihuahua. Grew up in nature, very close to my family, and always knowing everyone around town. I was a happy child but once I discovered Vogue Magazine everything changed for me, all I wanted was to live in Paris and work in fashion. I finished school and I realized that where I was, was never gonna get me to where I wanted to be, so I decided to move to L.A.

I started selling vintage clothes in flea markets and my clients were usually in the music or fashion industry, so I became more and more interested in the entertainment business. I started collaborating with different photographers and models, and eventually, I developed my own style.

Musicians started reaching out to me to be their stylist, and suddenly it evolved to becoming their creative director which is my main business today.

Also, I created my own pants brand called PANTALON which just launched.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not very smooth, not too rough. I think the biggest struggles I’ve had came from my own insecurities. Whenever I was not trusting myself or becoming insecure about certain decisions.

But once I started believing in my art and the value of my ideas, everything changed to me. The road became more of an adventure where failure is permitted and making a mistake doesn’t mean that my work is not valuable, it means, I’m becoming more of my true self.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a fashion stylist, creative consultant and brand developer. I’m proud of my new brand PANTALON which is a non size, genderless pair of pants.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the mountains, the ocean, and all of nature. What I like the least is that it is not a walkable city.
