Today we’d like to introduce you to Oxana Alex
Hi Oxana , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started photography as a hobby when my daughter was born. I was obsessed with taking photos of her.
I asked my friend, a fashion photographer what camera to buy. He sat down with me and explained how to use the camera manually. He sent me home and told me, to only use your camera in manual mode.
So, I was playing with my camera, shooting my 6-month-old daughter, then my friends, their kids, pregnant friends, etc.
After 1,5 years people started to ask me to do photoshoots for them.
It was then, that I opened my own company, went to school to take photography classes, and started to charge people.
My very first shoot was 300$ and I was thinking to myself, are they really paying me?
So answering your question, it happened organically, but I was very passionate about it. I spent many hours learning things about photography and even traveling to different parts of the world to attend workshops.
Now I have been in business for more than 10 years. Been Published in many magazines, including Elle, Harpers Bazar, and L’ Officiel, worked with celebrities.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a business owner has actually been a surprisingly smooth journey for me. It felt like a natural step, aligning with my passions and strengths, so each challenge along the way felt manageable and even exciting. I feel truly grateful that it’s been a journey of growth rather than struggle, allowing me to focus on building my business and enjoying the process. I always tell my clients that I am so Blessed to do what I Love.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say I am an artist and a dreamer who is truly passionate about photography. I specialize in Fashion and Maternity photography and I have my own studio on the West Side of Los Angeles.
I love doing Maternity sessions and capturing the miracle of creating new life and feel blessed to be doing what I love. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to photograph beautiful memories for my clients.
I’ve also always had a deep love for fashion, a passion that’s been with me for as long as I can remember. This obsession with style has shaped so much of who I am, making fashion photoshoots not just a job, but a creative outlet that I genuinely enjoy. The opportunity to be creative, to style unique looks, and to capture the moments fuels me and keeps this journey exciting.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
One of the qualities I believe is most essential to my success is my creativity. Bringing fresh ideas and making them into trends helped me stand out and keep my work exciting.
In addition to creativity, I’d say being disciplined and punctual have been crucial to my success. Running a business means wearing many hats—managing operations, keeping up with social media, and handling advertising. Staying organized and disciplined has helped me balance these responsibilities, making sure I’m on time for every project and consistent with my brand.
Most importantly, being a people person has been at the heart of my success. I genuinely enjoy working with people, connecting with clients, and understanding their vision. Building these relationships adds meaning to every project and creates a collaborative energy that brings out the best in my work. For me, connecting with people isn’t just a part of the job—it’s what makes this journey fulfilling.
