Conversations with Olme Polanco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olme Polanco

Olme , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Yes, My name is in fact Olme and it is not a stage name as some might assume. I was born and raised here in Los Angeles to Salvadoran parents who migrated in the mid 80’s. Since then I have always been surrounded by music either at a family party or gathering (which were very frequent in my childhood days) or it was my dad who would spend every weekend at the CD store’s that existed in those days (his favorite was ritmo latino off pacific blvd.) and would always have me and my sister tag along. My dad would listen to everything from spanish rock, salsa, merengue, hip hop and american rock even though he didn’t understand the language. (and also techno lol ) Music after that was my pastime all through my life. Eventually I dabbled towards the end of high school (started as a rapper) and since then been sharpening my axe whether it be DJing or music production or just learning about music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Not too dwell too much but I have shared the struggles of most immigrant families growing up, resources were not always readily available so we spent most our lives trying to attain those resources which we trade our time for (JOB) trying to build a foundation and that can definitely get in the way of trying to accomplish one’s own goals. So I have spent most of my life working jobs to make sure my duties are met. Regardless, I have always found time to sharpen my skills and acquire more knowledge in my field of interest as any person who is determined would. Besides that you have your usual growing pains as any young adult (a lot of failing). In retrospect, it’s all part of the plan so its all one big lesson.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the moment, I feel I have been playing catch up so I have been creating content strictly for Instagram which consists of visuals and instrumentals I have created. Luckily some folks have been very receptive , and hopefully that will catch the attention of any artist who is willing to work with me to publish complete songs. In regards to Djing, I am looking to put together a night that will be strictly R&B that will cater to mostly other DJ’s, R&B purists, and anyone looking to socialize in a more relaxed and elegant setting. Ultimately I would like to bring that same vibe to a bigger brand and events they have have planned . In the meantime I am constantly releasing mixes via soundcloud to give people a little taste of how a night might play out once I do put this event together.
I am a music producer first…
So always creating! Always Learning!

What were you like growing up?
I was pretty much a normal kid in my younger years, and would get in trouble here and there as any curious child during elementary school. Middle school – High School I would say I was mischievous just to keep it PG lol. My mom would say I was hand but I feel I turned out fine. I bounced around a lot throughout my life in regards to my living situation so I don’t have too many memories of old friends or the neighborhood I grew up in since I lived in so many. I was definitely always curious and ambitious, always reading and or selling something to make some money. Till this day I am always reading and making sure I keep income flowing.
