Today we’d like to introduce you to NicoTheOwl.
Hi NicoTheOwl, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from the island of Cyprus – I started playing piano at the age of five and that led me to Berklee College of Music in Boston where I studied Jazz Composition and Music Production. While at Berklee I started working with AIKA, we did a demo together and she got signed to EMI records with that demo. The album went number#1 in Japan and that’s how I started out. I’ve worked with numerous artists after that, including Marty Friedman (Megadeth), Cher Lloyd, Gladys Knight, TWICE , Immortal Technique, Super Junior, Ayaka Hirahara to name a few and I also wrote music for award-winning films such as Coming To America 2, Zoolander 2, Baywatch, After and many more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road because you constantly deal with different people, different emotions and different opinions and egos but that’s what makes it fun for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My name is NicoTheOwl and I am a Grammy-nominated, award-winning music producer and songwriter. I have worked with artists such as Cher Lloyd, TWICE, Julia Michaels, Lasso, Super Junior, Lena Meyer-Landrut, Public Enemy and I have written and produced songs for movies such as Coming To America 2, Zoolander 2, Baywatch, After and many more. I have 13 #1’s in Asia, Germany and Europe, 10 Gold and Platinum awards and 28 Top 10 chart entries.
Everyone’s different and everyone perceives sound and music with their own unique way. I’m just always staying true to myself and trusting my gut and intuition to make decisions.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, that music will always be a part of our lives, no matter the circumstances. Music always stays when everyone and everything is gone.
