Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Yarris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Once I was released from Death Row after 23 years of solitary confinement I tried to use my education to become an author.
I then understood that I had a gift for speaking and I employed that effort globally.
Since my release after being proven innocent by DNA testing in 2004 I have spoken all over the world.
From schools to businesses to government I went around the world trying to use lessons I learned from Death Row to empower people to overcome mental difficulties in life.
I never knew why I was chosen to have a gift to communicate with others, I only became aware of it once I saw the effects that I had.
Right now I’m having a major motion picture made about my life after having Adrian Brody play me on stage in London last November.
To see yourself in the art form created by another is one of the most humbling self-introspective things that you can experience.
It is taught me that I owe it to anyone that loves me or believes in Me to be a really good man in life.
I think that’s all that matters is that I offer the most pious thoughts about all of this.
I dare not act with anger, I dare not with ego, because I walk around knowing that I’ve been truly blessed by God.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I suffer from CTE brain injury that is the result of being beaten multiple times on death row.
I suffer a plethora of broken bones all over my body that were never allowed to heal.
I’ve been homeless for the last 4 years living on the streets currently.
Because of my injuries and the fact that I’m 64 years old means that I cannot work and hold steady jobs.
So now as I wait for good things to come my way, I always try my best to do something for someone else so that my life has meaning.
It never mattered if I had money or not.
It was just whether or not I was willing to continue on offering to others hope or salvation.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve written two new television shows which I’m shopping currently in the hopes that I can use my talent and my education from prison to sustain my life.
I’ve written four books that I published and I continue to hopefully go around the world speaking once again.
The one thing that sets me apart from all others is that I learned neuroplasticity healing and that I employ it in my daily life to overcome all PTSD related issues.
I am happy functioning adult male because I understood and employed neuroplasticity healing unto myself.
The greatest accomplishment you can have in life is to overcome all of your tragedies and still be a kind and loving person.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
There are way too many books for me to claim a favorite but I am drawn to the prophet by Khalil Gibran.
I love the film Hombre starring Paul Newman, and then I can never stop listening to midnight without you by the Blue Nile.
Each of us has art driven into us mine is just from the soul to my ears…
