Conversations with Nadine Somlith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Somlith.

Hi Nadine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the Founder of Secret Skin Bar serving the Eastvale, Chino Hills, and surrounding areas. When I was 32 years old (three years ago) I decided I wanted a change in my career. Having two Bachelor’s Degrees, and an Associate’s Degree, most people thought I was crazy! A huge risk to take, but I was willing to take my chances. I graduated with my Aesthetics in 2019. Shortly after, I began working at my local Ulta Beauty as their in-house Esthetician. Once the pandemic hit in March 2020, I was furloughed and eventually laid off. I always knew I wanted to own my own business, and when I got let go, I said “it’s time, I’m either going to float or sink”, and I definitely wasn’t going to sink. It was an incredibly risky time to start a business, let alone when your industry is shut down, doesn’t make it any easier. While everyone was struggling to get toilet paper, I was busy manifesting. I came up with a business name, got my business license, took extensive education courses, purchased my equipment, partnered with some amazing skincare lines, launched a website, made some business cards, and by the time summer came, I was ready to GLOW! Keep in mind I have no existing clientele.

I started doing facials for my friends, neighbors, etc., who then referred their friends and family. My business started to grow little by little. It wasn’t easy, having to shut down during covid surges, but I kept going. I found myself circulating on my local Facebook group pages as the months went on.

Today I’m now running a six-figure woman-owned Aesthetic Business “Secret Skin Bar” I get to do what I love every day while helping people feel comfortable in their own skin and reach their skin goals! I took a chance on myself, better yet, I believed in myself, and here I am, a strong passionate woman, who followed her dreams, pushed through the triumphs, and made what others thought was impossible, possible!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road. Opening a business during a pandemic while your industry keeps getting shut down, was scary! Every day was unpredictable, but I kept a positive mindset through it all. There will always be struggles owning your own business. My main struggle is work-life balance. People tend to think you are lucky, getting to choose when you work, make your own rules, etc., but that’s far from the truth! The truth is that it’s overwhelming at times. I’m a one-person shop and do it all. I’m a salesperson, an accountant, a graphic designer, a content creator, a chemist, and more on top of being a mom and wife. I also have to deal with 1% of people that no show their appointments and disrespect my business. That’s a side of the business that consumers won’t see either.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Licensed Aesthetician (or Esthetician) Founder of Secret Skin Bar, which services the Eastvale, Chino Hills, and surrounding areas. I specialize in Acne, Corrective Skin Care, and Sensitive Skin. I am proud of how far I’ve come in the last two years. Starting an entirely new career in my mid-thirties, some might call it a mid-life crisis, but I call it my journey. I found my calling. What sets me apart from others, is my passion. I truly want the best for my existing and future clients so establishing a relationship with my clients is so important to me, as they are my second family. I’m on this skin journey with them and hold their hand the entire way. I put my all into everything I love. This isn’t just my career, it’s my passion. My job is so rewarding, I get to change people’s lives and give them back their confidence, and that itself is a true blessing. I plan to offer mentorships and training for aspiring estheticians in the near future.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I suffer from chronic pain (Fibromyalgia), and I don’t talk about it much, because I manage it well. I do have bad days, I just have learned to cope with it, and not let it define me. Other than that I love dancing, I’m a total foodie, and a boy mama!
