Conversations with Michael Mamic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mamic

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I can say my journey in film & entertainment started in 2020, but it was always a subconscious interest since I was little. Growing up, I’ve always had a thing for capturing moments. I think whatever I captured through either photos or videos evoked emotions that I never really wanted to let go of. I would take photos and videos of anything & everything. Throughout middle & high school, I was a student-athlete aspiring to be the next Kobe Bryant until 2020, my 11th-grade year. Through 2019-2020 hardships I lost the passion of pursing that dream and it’s all I had known. It’s all I was disciplined to do, so without basketball, I was confused about what to do with my life. I had a few ideas, but I never gave a shot at anything until the 2020 Covid Times. It had given me the time and opportunity to explore my interests. I went on a photoshoot with my older brother, Jeff David King, to take BTS photos, and I saw that it was something I was good at. Fast forward 4 years to where I am now, through building connections, enjoying the process and using the discipline I had as a student athlete to explore my creativity as a filmmaker, I found a full-time passion in film & entertainment.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think entrepreneurship or chasing a dream/passion is always a struggle in some form. There were a few times I lost my mind trying to maintain the workflow that has to be put in. Some might challenge me on this thought, but they were moments I’m very grateful for because it helped me elevate. I’m nowhere near where I’d like to be, and the thought I constantly battle is wanting my work to look a certain way, but it doesn’t (imposter syndrome). I have to constantly remind myself that some things can only be learned through experience. I’ve come to realize that as I grow, it’s this balance of pushing the limits, learning from the past, and being present rather than focusing on the future. What can I do right now to make the best of any situation? The growth will happen regardless; I just also need to be patient and appreciative of the art I’m making now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to consider myself a well-rounded storytelling creative. Primarily, I’m a video/film director, cinematographer, editor, and photographer. Our Company, Mamic Media, serves as a lifestyle/commercial production house & marketing agency. Music being a heavy passion in my life, I also independently A&R under my other company, ÄNAŸEZ. A new film & entertainment label that serves in film/media productions, public relations, press, music production, etc., to push and empower the idea of being authentic through arts & culture.

I have a huge passion for storytelling and evoking emotions while doing so. I try to be as intentional as possible when creating because I want art to be an expression of something. My POV that life is about evolution, I want my art to inspire something that challenges people’s perspectives or growth.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, my parents always taught me to dream big and that with God, anything is possible. Although I was pretty reserved, I was very outgoing/adventurous at the same time. In a household of 7 siblings, being the youngest, I grew up pretty fast. As of the 5th grade, I moved out to Florida with 2 of my brothers to play basketball. And that’s where I really learned how to be disciplined, playing at one of the top schools in the state. I learned how to be passionate about something and to go after your dreams. I would study MJ and Kobe all the time about what it takes to be great. It definitely took a lot for my head to learn that drive, but eventually, I think I got close. That drive, plus a relationship with God, is what I carry with me now as I try and grow in this film & entertainment space.
