Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Scortino.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story has really been shaped by two things: my passion for storytelling and my journey through motherhood. I spent over two decades pursuing acting, and I still love and continue to do it today. Storytelling has always been a huge part of who I am, but becoming a mom opened my eyes to a completely different purpose.
Like so many moms, I found myself pouring everything into my family while also realizing how easy it is to lose pieces of yourself along the way. I started asking bigger questions about how I could use my experiences, my voice, and my platform to encourage other moms who may be feeling the same way.
That’s where “Mama 2 Mama” was born. It started from a desire I had to remind moms that they don’t have to choose between being an amazing mother and continuing to grow as an individual. They can prioritize themselves without the guilt, because taking care of themselves ultimately helps them show up even better for the people they love.
What began as a passion project has grown into a community of moms supporting and encouraging one another. I’m still at the beginning of this journey, but I’m incredibly grateful for every mom who has connected with this message, and I’m excited about the impact we can continue to create together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I don’t think starting anything meaningful ever is. Building a business and creating something from the ground up comes with a lot of learning curves, and honestly, I feel like I’m learning something new almost every single day. I’m still waiting for the day when I feel like I have it all figured out—but I’m not sure that day actually exists!
In a lot of ways, this journey has reminded me of when I first started acting. It was exciting, terrifying, and I had no idea what I was doing at first. But over time, you learn, you adapt, and you figure things out because you have to. Starting “Mama 2 Mama” has brought back that same feeling of starting from scratch, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding to build something that has such a meaningful purpose
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Whenever someone asks me what I do for a living, I usually laugh and say, ‘Do you have a minute or two?’ because it’s not always the easiest thing to explain! I don’t know if there are many people who combine being an entrepreneur focused on helping moms with being an actor, but to me, those two worlds actually make a lot of sense together.
I’ve always had a desire to help people. I’ve volunteered through my church and different nonprofits for years, and I’ve always loved connecting with others, communicating, and being in front of people through my acting career. Then becoming a mom for the past nine years added another layer and gave me an even deeper understanding of what moms need.
When you combine my love for storytelling, my passion for helping others, and my own experience in motherhood, “Mama 2 Mama” feels like the natural place where all of those pieces come together. I created it because I truly believe moms aren’t meant to do this alone, and if I can use my experiences and my voice to encourage and support other moms, that’s what I’m most proud of!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think one thing that might surprise people is that even though I’m known for encouraging moms and building a community, I’m actually a very competitive person. I’ve always loved sports, teamwork, and the feeling of working toward a goal with other people. If I hadn’t discovered acting in high school, I honestly think I may have pursued sports in some way. I love the discipline, the camaraderie, and the sportsmanship that comes with being part of a team.
On the more random side, I have a pretty unusual sense of humor. I find the most random, unexpected things hilarious, and if something strange comes out of my mouth, I usually blame my family—because if you know my sister and my dad, you know exactly where that comes from! LOL! They are some of the most hard working but funniest people I know!
A few other random facts: I can pick up objects with my toes (a completely unnecessary talent, but one I’m oddly proud of), my favorite food is Italian—probably not surprising given my last name—and my favorite ice cream flavor is mint.
