Conversations with Marline Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marline Martinez.

Hi Marline, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, My name is Marline. I’m 33 years old from Los Angeles. I’m the oldest of 3. Growing up I always noticed how hard working my mom was. I was very close to her but unfortunately she passed when I was 16. Without her guidance I sometimes felt lost, but remembering her hustle and drive always pushed me to achieve more for myself.

I worked in corporate for about 8 years in marketing and in computer science. Al though I continued to do well in my roles, I never truly felt I was walking in my purpose – and then in 2023 I was laid off. After years of putting in the work to climb the corporate ladder I was forced to start from 0.

Already having my daughter I felt the need to do something different for myself & for her. I wanted something I could call my own. A career where I could gain financial freedom and get time back with my family.

After doing research into beauty school and how business owners could scale in the brow industry I decided to move forward with becoming a brow artist. There were times I question if this was the right move but I stayed focused and determined.

After 3 months off from being laid off. I begin my search for work again only this time I decided to take a big pay cut and step into a more entry level role so that I could continue to perfect my artistry in brows.

I told myself I would harder than anyone, I’d make myself available on days most beauty service providers weren’t and I stayed consistent with building my social media presence. I also studied my work and found ways to improve after every client. All while working 10-12 hours 7 days a week.

I also worked for FREE a lot in the beginning to build my portfolio.

But the most important thing I focused on was building my client experience. While perfecting my craft was priority in the beginning of my journey. I then started to prioritize making sure my clients had a space to feel seen, heard, and cared for.

Now I have (all thanks to god & my clientele) a fully booked schedule every month with clients I love and appreciate and who genuinely support my small business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road whatsoever. I sacrificed (and still do) time away from my daughter and my family. But I always remind myself that these times are temporary and without the sacrifices I’m making today, there’s no success for the future.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a brow artist in Los Angeles CA. I specialize in natural brow artistry. I’m known for my brow services such as brow lamination, precise brow mapping, and customized hybrid tinting styles.

I’m most proud of the community I’ve built within my clients, students and online friends.

I would say what sets me apart from others is my ability to understand my clients needs and goals and turn them into real results.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to collaborating with other small business to help them grow as and support them. Occasionally I love doing giveaways with other businesses to help them with exposure.
