Conversations with Lisa Faith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Faith

Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
HI!
I’m Lisa, and this is my story. At thirty-five years old, I realized I was created to create and I came into knowing myself as a creative. This discovery forever changed my trajectory in the most radical ways. At thirty-eight, the life I knew burned to the ground by means of divorce. I took a job at an interior design firm and for the next five years I worked ten out of eleven consecutive days while trying to balance my new role as a single mom. I rebuilt my life from the ground up. While at my first design firm, I stood shoulder to shoulder next to a co-worker who was an absolute treasure to me. This gave me the drive and courage to leave my design firm and start off on my own. After a year working solo, I built enough business for my co-worker to leave; and we again stand shoulder to shoulder. The road hasn’t been easy, but man it’s been worth it, I’ve grown it ways I never imagined.

I feel privileged that I love what I do. I could create design and product everyday for the rest of my life. Maya Angelou says “success is liking who you are, liking what you do and liking how you do it.” I live by this moto. I love who I am and who I am becoming. I love what I do and I love how I do it!

I’m incredibly proud of my team and what we’re building. The sky is the limit, and we’ve just barely scratched the surface!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many challenges along the way. Figuring out marketing, how to handle the financial aspect of running a profitable business, taxes, accounting, operational flow etc… The challenges of being a business owner sometimes feel daunting, but it’s all part of the learning curve and every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow! This is what I was made for and this is what I want to do well into my ninety’s.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the proud owner of my own interior design firm based in Newport Beach California and I have clients and projects on the East Coast and Paris. I love interior design and product development. I specialize in construction and complete remodels. I love, welcome, want and have a knack for the process of building/rebuilding and seeing something for its potential and all the possibilities. I’m a “30,000 foot view” type and that allows me to see a project from a wide lens. I have an ability to visualize what something will look like in a space, and that helps me guide my clients more succinctly. The challenges of construction and working closely to knit a team together towards one singular outcome is an honor. My eyes are pointed towards hospitality design, specifically in New York City.

I’m known for my use of black, colors, patterns, textures and clean, modern lines while layering in abstract art and the beauty of nature by means of natural accessories. Although color and pattern are my go to comfort zones, I have years of California clean coastal design under my belt and one of my favorite projects was a beautiful guest suite that was a blend of traditional French lines and antiques. Being able to play in different design genres keeps me sharp! I’m most proud when my clients say, “this feels like me”. Nothing makes me happier than knowing I helped create a haven for my clients to reprieve to.

I can’t go with out my travel to inspire my design, creative soul and sketches. The entire world is inspiration to me and I feel incredibly thankful that my sense of wonderment has never left me!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I don’t consider myself a risk taker as I can’t play a single hand of cards in Vegas with out freaking out…! But looking back on my life, I think I take risks in different ways. Leaving my old life and design firm to start on my own was a risk that has been rewarding, challenging, fulfilling, terrifying and freeing all at the same time. I love the projects that allow me to push the creative envelope and step outside the typical design box. “You can not swim for new horizons until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore” -William Faulkner. It’s safe to say, I haven’t been able to see the shore for a while, and I know my life will be a an adventure from one shore to the next.
