Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaiki Chan
Hi Kaiki, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began with a natural curiosity about how things were created. From a young age, I found myself more interested in the “how” than the “what”, whether it was understanding the production of a song or the craft behind a scene in a film. As I got older, I found that music and sound captivated me the most, particularly the creative and technical processes behind them. This curiosity led me to pursue a degree at Berklee College of Music, where I honed my skills and learned about both the artistic and business aspects of the entertainment industry.
After graduating in 2021, I moved to Los Angeles to further immerse myself in the industry. I gained hands-on experience in the industry and eventually joined Audio Mechanics, where I worked on high-profile audio restoration projects for clients like Disney, Sony Pictures, and the Library of Congress. Those milestones have been pivotal in my journey, but my goal has always been to combine technical expertise with a passion for storytelling, and I’m excited to continue growing in this field.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been without its bumps. Like many, the pandemic was a major challenge, forcing me to adjust to remote learning and work while still trying to stay connected to my goals. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles, which was a big transition, not only in terms of finding my place in a new city but also in understanding the dynamics of a highly competitive industry.
One of the biggest hurdles was learning how to navigate these challenges while staying true to my passion. There were certainly moments of doubt, but those struggles also taught me resilience and the importance of keeping my long-term goals in focus. Each setback was an opportunity to learn and grow, and I think that’s what ultimately helped me build the career I have today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in audio engineering, focusing on both the technical precision and the creative artistry behind sound. I’m particularly known for my ability to blend the technical with the artistic, ensuring that every project I work on sounds not only polished but also emotionally resonant. What truly sets me apart is my deep appreciation for the entire creative process, from the minute details of audio production to the larger storytelling arc that the sound serves. I’m equally passionate about the technical side of engineering as I am about the impact the sound has on the audience.
One of my proudest achievements has been my work on Summer Cologne by Kelsey Kuan. It was a breakthrough project for Kelsey and also a personal milestone, as it went on to gain significant traction with millions of streams. Beyond that, my work at Audio Mechanics, restoring audio for high-profile clients like Disney and Sony, has really pushed my skills to new heights. Each project I take on is an opportunity to elevate the experience for the listener, and that’s what keeps me motivated.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success isn’t just about external achievements or accolades; it’s about creating work that is meaningful and has a lasting impact. Success means staying true to my passion for sound, pushing the boundaries of my craft, and continually evolving as both an artist and a professional. I also think success comes from knowing you’re contributing to something larger than yourself, whether it’s shaping a powerful sound experience for a film or crafting a track that resonates with listeners.
On a personal level, I see success as being able to balance technical proficiency with creative integrity, and finding fulfillment in the process of creating something that connects with people. It’s about continually challenging myself to grow and contributing to projects that push the boundaries of what sound can do for storytelling.
