Hello, I’m Jaquelyn Segura! I’m a passionate business owner and creative content creator. My journey began in Napa Valley, California, a place that instilled in me a love for creativity and entrepreneurship. In 2022, I decided to take a leap of faith and moved to the vibrant city of Los Angeles. I was seeking new challenges for myself and my small but dynamic business team. I wanted to grow both personally and professionally, and Los Angeles seemed like the perfect place to push my boundaries and explore new horizons.
Risk-taking and trying new things have always been part of my DNA. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, I dived into the role of Creative Director for a local business. This position was a turning point for me, as it allowed me to truly tap into and exercise my creative side. It was here that I discovered a profound love for social media.
Social media has been a game-changer for me. It has not only helped me grow my business but also expanded my portfolio. Through social media, I’ve connected with amazing people, shared my journey, and opened doors to countless new opportunities. The journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been filled with its fair share of obstacles and challenges. When I first decided to open my business, I had little knowledge about what it took to succeed in today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving landscape. I dove headfirst into the entrepreneurial world, learning everything on my own. From mastering the basics of business operations to understanding the intricacies of digital marketing and social media, it was a steep learning curve. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, but each challenge became a valuable lesson that shaped me into the business owner I am today.
Moving to Los Angeles in 2022 was another significant challenge. I didn’t know a single person in the city, and the prospect of starting fresh was both exciting and daunting. Navigating this vast, bustling metropolis on my own, I faced countless moments of uncertainty. Every street and every neighborhood was uncharted territory. Yet, this experience taught me resilience and the importance of embracing the unknown. Each step I took, each new connection I made, was a step toward building a new life and a stronger business foundation.
Deciding to follow my dream and dive into an industry where I had zero knowledge and zero connections was perhaps the biggest challenge of all. I had no blueprint to follow and no network to lean on. But I was passionate and committed to carving out my path. I took risks, learned from my mistakes, and gradually built my brand and network from the ground up.
Despite the difficulties, I found that taking risks and pushing through uncertainty has its rewards. It’s in these moments of challenge that we discover our true potential and capacity for growth. Los Angeles has become a place of endless opportunities and has allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a “Jack of all trades,” as I tap into various types of work that fuel my passions and creativity. I own an online western boutique called Shop Segura, which was created for the modern cowgirl. It brings together Western and Mexican American fashion with a modern chic twist. Our collections are designed to boost confidence and celebrate uniqueness, focusing on personal style and offering pieces that make women feel empowered and special.
1) Shop Segura:
Shop Segura stands out because it’s more than just a boutique; it’s a celebration of individuality and cultural fusion. By blending Western and Mexican American fashion, we create pieces that resonate with the modern cowgirl who values both tradition and contemporary style. Our collections are all about empowering women to feel confident and unique in their style. We want every woman who shops with us to feel like they can take on the world. As they say, “look good, feel good.”
2) Social media content creation:
My journey into social media content creation began as a natural extension of my love for fashion and lifestyle. Moving to Los Angeles in 2022 allowed me to dive deeper into this world as a Creative Director. I discovered that social media is a powerful tool to connect with people, share my passions, and grow both my business and personal brand. I love creating content that inspires and engages my audience, whether it’s showcasing the latest fashion trends or sharing snippets of my daily life.
3) A Toast to Life Podcast:
“A Toast to Life” is a podcast dedicated to transforming uncomfortable conversations into engaging and enlightening discussions. Alongside my cohost, we delve into topics that often go unspoken, providing a safe and open platform for guests to share their experiences and insights. With a blend of empathy, curiosity, and candid dialogue, we aim to break down barriers, challenge societal norms, and foster a deeper understanding of the complexities of the human experience. Our listeners can expect thought-provoking conversations that inspire growth and reflection.
Balancing multiple roles and projects is a challenge, but it’s one that I embrace with enthusiasm. I believe in the power of time management and staying organized. Prioritizing tasks, setting clear goals, and staying passionate about what I do keeps me motivated. Each aspect of my work, from Shop Segura to content creation to podcasting, brings me joy and fulfillment, which makes the juggling act worthwhile.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was born and raised in the beautiful Napa Valley, California. As a first-generation Mexican American with parents from Zacatecas and Michoacan, Mexico, my heritage is a vibrant blend of rich traditions and hard work. Being the eldest of eight siblings, I learned the ins and outs of running a business early on, thanks to my family’s Mexican grocery store which was the heart of my childhood.
Growing up in a humble household, I was instilled with the values of dedication and perseverance from a very young age. My family’s deep involvement in the traditional Mexican sport of charrerria and agriculture cultivated my passion for the Western lifestyle and aesthetic. This connection to my roots is something I cherish and celebrate, infusing my brand with the beauty of Mexican culture.
After graduating with a degree in business and marketing from California State University, Los Angeles, I made the exciting move to Los Angeles in 2022. Here, I continue to share my cultural heritage and love for the Western lifestyle with others, allowing it to inspire and shape my professional journey.
