Conversations with Ezenwa Nekes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezenwa Nekes.

Hi Ezenwa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Nigeria and raised in South Central Los Angeles, so growing up I was influenced by two completely different cultures. Music has always been my first passion, and in 2020 I attended a music program in LA called The Nest Society. One of the mentors there told me that while my music was good, people would connect with me even more if I had merchandise that represented who I was. That idea stuck with me.

At the time, I didn’t have the money to start a clothing brand, so I focused on building my music career as YFR Eazy while slowly planning what EazyLovesYou could become. Once I was finally able to start, I had a lot of assistance from my longtime friend and creative collaborator @callmeangelok, who helped bring many of my ideas to life and played a big role in shaping the brand during its early stages.

When I launched EazyLovesYou, I honestly thought it would just be another way to support my music and make a little extra income outside of my regular job. I never expected people to connect with it the way they have. As time went on, I fell in love with every part of building a brand from designing pieces and creating campaigns to packing orders and seeing people wear something I created.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all , the thing about starting a business is picking and choosing who you want to work with. I have spent over thousands of dollars on merchandise and some of them didn’t work out as much.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of **EazyLovesYou** and an independent artist who performs as **YFR Eazy**. I specialize in blending fashion, music, and storytelling into one brand. For me, everything is connected—sometimes a song inspires a clothing collection, and other times a piece of clothing inspires a new creative idea.

People probably know me most for EazyLovesYou’s Bubblegum Hoodies, but I hope what they’re really drawn to is the message behind the brand. EazyLovesYou has always been about spreading love, positivity, and encouraging people to be themselves. Growing up between Nigerian and South Central LA cultures has shaped how I create and given me a unique perspective that I try to reflect in everything I make.

What I’m most proud of is building something from the ground up while still being a full-time college student. I’ve learned how to design products, market collections, build a website, pack and ship orders, and connect with customers—all while continuing to make music. I also had the support of my longtime friend and creative collaborator **@callmeangelok**, who helped bring many of my ideas to life and has been an important part of the brand’s creative journey.

I think what sets me apart is that I don’t create just to follow trends. Every collection has a story, every design has a purpose, and everything I put out reflects who I am. At the end of the day, I want people to remember how EazyLovesYou made them feel. If someone puts on one of my hoodies and feels more confident, inspired, or simply has a better day because of it, then I’ve done what I set out to do.

As EazyLovesYou continues to grow, my goal isn’t just to build a successful clothing brand it’s to build a community where people feel seen, supported, and reminded that love is something worth wearing and sharing.

What does success mean to you?
I would define success as the best revenge to deal with your haters.
