Conversations with Etalvia Cashin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Etalvia Cashin.

Hi Etalvia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well I’ve always been an artist, a creative. I’ve always been interested in theatre, acting, and modeling. So me being a natural creative, I was always doing photoshoots for fun with my friends back in high school. I think I naturally loved it so much that it became a very fun experience, cathartic at times, and I just really enjoyed it. I love doing photoshoots, dressing up, putting on different outfits, playing characters.. So when I realized I could actually do this for a living and it could be something that I could be more professional in – like an actual job, I think the floodgates opened from there. Then I realized, oh I have to get an agent, take more pictures, and put myself out there, play with different outfits. I think it was just a natural progression, and then I decided to move to LA and study theatre more at Loyola Marymount and start going to auditions. So auditions lead to jobs, lead to more opportunities, lead to being on set, and years later I’m still here. I’m still doing it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh my gosh. Has it been a smooth road?? No. I still feel like I’m climbing the ladder so to speak, It hasn’t been so smooth in terms of the business side but it’s apart of the journey. I really like the creative process and I had to just learn how to really love diving into creativity again. Really love going in as an artist, approaching a character a certain way, learning to love to audition, things like that. And when I think of it that way, when I make sure to ask myself “Am I having fun doing this? Am I loving what I’m doing? Am I excited? Am I motivated about the work?” When I think of it that way, it just recharges me! The bumps in the road become more like stop signs and speed bumps. They’re not permanent red lights so to speak. It’s just more like yield signs and speed bumps I should say hahaha

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well I’m an actor, model, dancer. I’ve been doing this for a long time. I specialize in roles that require movement, I’m bilingual, I speak Spanish, so bilingual type of roles. I’m really into fashion, I sing. I think what sets me apart – at least what I’m told – is that I’m really original and unique. I have this really unique look and I always want to be myself. I mean I enjoy paying different roles, different characters – yes, but I never copy anybody. I’m always trying to approach a role or a job in my own way and give myself that freedom to really create from a unique space. I think that’s what sets me apart. That and my work ethic.

What are your plans for the future?
There’s a couple things in the works. I’ve been auditioning. I’ve going to table reads at studios. I’ve been getting callbacks. I’ll film different projects here and there, but what I’m really excited about this year is working on my content. Producing and writing my own comedy because I’m a writer. I’m really a writer. I don’t talk about this enough, but I was in writing competitions in high school so I’ve been writing behind the scenes for a long time. I’ve been producing my own things, I create my own photoshoot ideas, I do my own mood boards for my look. I’m very involved in my own styling, and picking my own team, things like that. I’m going to dive more into the writing and producing side this year. I’m really excited about what me and my creative partners are going to come up with. I think it’s going to be really funny, entertaining, and fun!
