Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Horton
Hi Dylan , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, My name is Dylan Horton I am from Inglewood, Ca. Growing up I went to school outside of my district because my parents wanted me to receive a better education. My whole life i’ve grown up playing basketball watching my brother play always inspired me so I’ve always just been a student to the game . I’ve had a lot of trial and tribulations in my life but that’s never stopped me it just motivated me to work harder. I’ve always been underrated so I had to learn to play with a chip on my shoulder. My talent out of high school took me to a power 5 school at the University of Virginia ( UVA) . I played two years of basketball there and decided to transfer out to Florida A&M University (FAMU) an HBCU. I felt like my time at UVA taught me a lot about myself and gave me the tools I needed to be successful else where. I graduated from FAMU with an abundant amount of support and love and I was able to really make a name for myself there and receive several accolades and do a lot of things that not many people can do. I decided to move back closer to home for my Grad year and attended the University of San Diego (USD) and there I was able to reach my 1,000 college career points. What I can say is that my journey wasn’t the easiest but I wouldn’t trade it for the world because not too many athletes make it out of Inglewood and go D1 so this allowed me to really put on for my city but also it’s shaped me into the person I am today. Every school, every obstacle, every award, every challenge, every tear, every smile it was all worth it. I got the opportunity to go overseas to play but I chose to become a Graduate Assistant to pursue my masters and it’s given me a chance to see the game from a different stand point which is on the coaches side.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Mental Battles, Lost Confidence in myself sometimes, questioned my purpose, I just recently lost my Grandma August 24th, 2023 before my Grad year season. So definitely a lot of obstacles. Freshman year of college I moved across the country first time away from home by myself. Coming from a big family this was very hard. It was never easy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Athlete but i’ve created at platform for myself throughout my journey and I also makes music and i’m into fashion aswell so brand is on the way .. stay tuned! I’m most proud that i’ve always stayed true to myself. I’m very genuine and real person and I have a good heart and no too many people can say that. If you ask serval people about me as a person they’ll all say the same thing because I never change up. Im always ME.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Family gatherings. I have a big family so we’re always getting together. But specifically Christmas that’s my favorite. My whole life I’ve celebrated Christmas Eve with my Mom’s side and tradition is to stay up until Midnight and then we open gifts and then Christmas Day I celebrate with my Dads side and we have a Chicken and Waffles Breakfast, Open Gifts and then we have a Family basketball shootout every year. This is probably my favorite memory just because it’s still tradition until today.
