Conversations with Doug Lussenhop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Lussenhop.

Doug, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in Chicago, making silly videos from found footage to make my friends laugh. Someone convinced me that it was video art so I submitted and showed some work at PS1 in NYC. I moved to LA in 2003 with dreams of working on a comedy TV show. My first job was with playboy.com but soon got an internship with Tim and Eric on their first adult swim show “Tom Goes to the Mayor.” As an intern, I made a behind the scenes episode, which adult swim aired. I was then hired as an editor. I went on to be a writer and editor for their next show “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” Around this time, I got into standup and started opening for Tim and Eric on tour as DJ Douggpound. After that, I worked on the first three seasons of Portlandia and all 6 seasons of The Eric Andre Show. I also toured with Eric Andre. I did a web series for Superdeluxe called “The Poundcast” and I co-created the web series “Pound House” and “2 Wet Crew.” I got into podcasting with Neal Brennan and Moshe Kasher on “The Champs.” then started my own show called “The Poundcast” with co-host Brent Weinbach. Today I continue to do standup and co-host the “Office Hours with Tim Heidecker” podcast. I also make lots of music. In 2025, I released two albums of jingles, each containing 50 songs.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m grateful for how things have turned out. My career has been very rewarding. The only struggle has been being pigeonholed as an editor. It’s been tough to break out of that mold.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I guess my editing on Tim and Eric is what first put me on the map. My goal is to be unique, not to just put more of the same content out there.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Coming from Chicago, I’m gonna have to say the weather. That never gets old. I also like the amount of like minded people here who are down to collaborate and make stuff. It’s a great place for creative people. I dislike the car culture, it keeps us in our lonely little bubbles. I wish there were more walkable and bike-able communal areas. And if we all have to drive, make more parking! Don’t get me started.
