Conversations with Dorit Schwartz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorit Schwartz.

Dorit Schwartz

Hi Dorit, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since a very early age, I’ve been intrigued by the diversity of nature. This innate curiosity propelled me to explore the world around me. I studied Fine Arts at the Wizo Art School in Tel Aviv, and at the age of 17, I moved to Los Angeles, California. Since then, I’ve continued polishing my skills and knowledge of the arts. Since 2008, I’ve served full-time as the Resident Artist for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Las Vegas Chapter. It was there that I first created my now iconic sculptural work, Celebration of Life.

I am constantly evolving. I began my artistic journey with clay, moved on to marble carving, and now work with wood and crystal. My discovery and appreciation of the smoothness of acacia wood, the cool feel of marble, the roughness of discarded mortars, and the vibrancy of colorful crystals and their healing properties magnified my admiration of both the old and the new. Thus, I began incorporating reclaimed wood into my work, recovering its history and presenting it anew. For me, it is a magnificent way to celebrate the beauty of Mother Nature.

This metamorphosis and development are the driving force behind my new contemporary collection, The Light Within. I expand upon my own healing, which I obtain through my work with the natural elements. The beauty of my pieces lies in the exquisiteness of sensorial perception as I provide both visual and tactile enjoyment for the observers. I love creating new and powerful experiences for my audiences, sharing the knowledge gained from working with balanced and natural harmonies.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the journey hasn’t been without its bumps, each obstacle has sparked creative solutions and fueled my growth. Balancing artistic vision with practicalities, navigating material choices, and adapting to external factors have all contributed to the richness of my artistic evolution.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in crafting experiences through my blend of mediums, particularly showcased in my renowned Light Within Collection. What sets my work apart is its embodiment of the essence of nature, merging the tactile beauty of reclaimed wood with the allure of crystal elements.

I am most proud of my “The Light Within” collection, a series of crystal & wood sculptures that eloquently convey spirituality and the power of the natural world. This collection emphasizes its poetic narrative through tangible representations of the invisible, embodying a vision of unity and transparency.

In these sculptures, the organic iconic center of Quartz Crystal is rooted in the warmth of lovely acacia wood. This integration of materials and sensibility creates a fusion, inviting viewers to go into the depths of their own inner light and connect with the beauty and energy of the universe.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is the dance between inspiration and manifestation—the journey of transforming intangible ideas into tangible works of art. There’s a magic in the process, a combination of passion and skill that ignites my soul. When I see my sculptures take shape, it’s like witnessing a piece of my spirit materialize before me. And when others connect with my creations, when they feel the same spark of emotion that inspired me, that’s when I feel truly alive. It’s the shared experience of art, the universal language that transcends words, that fills me with unparalleled joy – and keeps me going.
