Conversations with Donovan Lowe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donovan Lowe.

Hi Donovan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in an artsy and musical family but I was very shy so no one had foreseen that I would take on a music career. Let alone be a solo artist. However, I studied as much of the greats as I could and pushed for an education in music because I knew that it was what I wanted to do. Choirs, recitals, college tours, festivals, dive bars, showcases… I went for it all and, along the way, I began to catch people’s attention with my YouTube covers and original music. Since then, I’ve collaborated with a few artists via writing, engineering, producing and lending my vocals. Today, I continue to expand my network as I create new solo material.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This hasn’t been the easiest journey but it’s had its rewards. The biggest struggles have been maintaining momentum and piling the calendar with gigs but as I keep growing and pushing through with the right strategies, more funding and opportunities will come.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter and beat maker generally performing R&B and Pop music. I’m known for my mid-tempo groove on record and energetic performances on stage. One thing I am most proud of is my growth and coming out of my shell to perform the way that I do and seeing the audience enjoying the show every time I hit the stage. I believe what sets me apart is my authenticity and not conforming to societal expectations in order to cater to someone’s comfortability in my art.

What matters most to you?
God, community, health, peace and stability matter the most to me. Without those, life is off balance.
