DeMarcus Bumpers is a proud graduate of Prairie View A&M University who worked in the oil field making a six-figure income in Houston, TX and was preparing to attend law school so he could practice law in the oil field and start private practice before transitioning into acting professionally full-time. Bumpers did not always want to be an actor. He has multiple family member family members in the entertainment industry. Bumpers ultimate goal in Hollywood is to become the first African American Male Houstonian Emmy Award, Golden Globe, and an academy award-winning actor. He has already hit the ground running by booking multiple roles in the pandemic. He booked roles such as; “Streaming Sarah” based on New York Times Best Selling Book by Joyce Kostakis with Tiffany Sturdivant attached as Director, “The Devil Comes Dressed For Church Too” “Get Out Of My Dreams” and “Smoking Mirrors” Tiffany Sturdivant as Director on projects. In addition, Mr. Bumpers booked tv mini-series “The beginning Of The End” and Leading Man in Film “Struggle” James Joffrion attached as Director for both the mini-series and film. Last Mr. Bumpers booked a popular franchise film as one of the leading characters in “Friday the 13th” fan film working with Director Jeff May and Chris Todd Durbin both natives of North Carolina. Friday the 13th is scheduled to be filmed in North Carolina.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Breaking into the entertainment industry is very challenging. One has to be very focused, persistent, driven, have strong work ethic, ready to execute, and able to overcome the “no’s” that you will face in the entertainment industry. In addition, the pandemic put a halt on projects across the board so a lot of actors were not in the studios working at the time. One has to become comfortable auditioning at home virtually since the studios were shut down for quite some time.
What makes you happy?
Impacting the lives of people around me by demonstrating that the impossible is always possible by believing in yourself and never giving up on your dreams. Being a person to demonstrate that something is easy to achieve with consistent hard work means a lot to me because people will fall in line and make their own dreams come true.
