Conversations with Danny Barba

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Barba.

Danny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Zacatecas, Mexico. I’m a Mexican-American actor currently based in Los Angeles, California. I started my acting career at the early age of eight, performing in various theater productions and training in different acting techniques.

At 18, I continued my acting journey in San Antonio, Texas, where I participated in several short films and theater productions in both English and Spanish. During that time, I grew tremendously as an actor, and that’s when I realized I needed to move to Los Angeles to continue my acting education and pursue my dreams at a higher level.

After earning my Associate Degree in Acting from one of the most recognized acting schools in Los Angeles, I began working professionally in film and television. I continue to challenge myself, expand my range, and grow as an actor in the industry.
Danny Barba is now working professionally in Los Angeles as a Film and TV actor.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Growing up between two cultures and moving constantly meant I had to adapt quickly, not just as a person but as an artist. Starting my career at such a young age came with its own challenges—balancing school, family, and the discipline that acting requires wasn’t easy.

Later on, moving to different cities like San Antonio and eventually Los Angeles pushed me far outside my comfort zone. There were moments of uncertainty, financial struggles, and self-doubt, especially as a Mexican-American actor trying to find my place in a very competitive industry. Language barriers, typecasting, and limited opportunities early on were real obstacles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a film and television actor with a strong foundation in theater. I specialize in character-driven performances that require emotional depth, vulnerability, and authenticity. Because I grew up between the U.S. and Mexico, I naturally bring a bicultural perspective to my work, which allows me to connect deeply with stories told in both English and Spanish.
I’m known for my discipline and for fully committing to the characters I play.

What I’m most proud of is my persistence. Every step of my journey—from starting as a child actor to moving cities and rebuilding my career in Los Angeles—has been driven by a genuine love for storytelling.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Overall, I’m optimistic: the industry is expanding in ways that open doors for diverse talent and new kinds of stories, and that’s a shift I’m proud to be a part of.

Streaming platforms have changed the game by giving creators more freedom with formats, pacing, and creative risks.
