Conversations with Cydnee Butler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cydnee Butler

Cydnee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I go by Cydnee with a C. The whole thing. I am from Atlanta, Georgia, and I moved to LA with the hopes of broadening my music horizon and Artistry. I make a drum and Bass music that heals the soul. I consider myself a K-pop ambassador, because I’m obsessed with K-pop, and it inspires my music, writing, and concepts. I’ve been learning Korean for nine years and speak read and write advance! My YouTube kpop community probably doesn’t even realize how much they’ve inspired the confidence in me to be who I am. I used to be made fun of for loving Kpop and being inspired through it as a music artist. We all come from different places and speak different languages but music is universal. My first Ep was called Confessions of a Fangirl and is almost to 4 million streams. With my second drum and Bass project (Wasabi Please) soon to be released, My mission and service is to heal through music and inspire internationally.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road there’s always been ups and downs as there is for any artist that leaves home and moved to LA. I am now a full-time artist and I Engineer mix and master my own music and others as well. I always had an issue with charging the same rate as a man and had to fight for getting paid fairly to engineer mix and master. As a woman I have struggled with weird production deals, homelessness and sexual harassment as well. I used to get so upset about it all until I realized that every industry has these things going on. So I just pushed through being great. As a black woman, I struggled with my first production team, not wanting me to learn Korean or sing pop music because I am “dark skin and from Atlanta.” I have even struggled with my own self and discouragement as every artist has but you just have to push through

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make drum and Bass music (dnb)
I specialize in singing, performing engineering, mixing and mastering
I’m known as your favorite K-pop idol’s musician because there are a few big K-pop idols that know my music including Gdragon
I’m also known as a K-pop ambassador on YouTube because I obsess with people all around the world
I am most proud of my first project Confessions of a Fangirl because I did not know that it would do so well and I’m happy that people are looking forward to the next one (Wasabi Please)
I think with sets me apart from others, is that I am an artist myself yet I am also a fan girl of my favorite K-pop idols. The healing and fun I get from K-pop is what I portray in my music. I have songs that are in Korean, but my drum and Bass music is an English.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I speak Korean and have been learning for nine years. I’ve also been playing guitar for 10. People who have just discovered my music may not know these things about me.

I introduced my producer to K-pop music and he introduced me to drum and Bass music. Together we created the sound that I have now. And it’s fire.!!!
