Conversations with Corinne Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corinne Hill.

Hi Corinne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always laugh when I think about this because I never set out to be a photographer. During COVID, I found myself bored and looking for a new hobby. That’s when I picked up a camera and started doing photoshoots with my sister—just experimenting, learning, and practicing. About a year later, I connected with a photographer on Instagram and began interning with her. She taught me everything from the ground up and brought me along to weddings and shoots. I second-shot for her, edited photos, and eventually associate-shot as I grew in confidence and skill.

That experience threw me into the deep end—in the best way possible. It pushed me to grow quickly, and I fell in love with the process.

Eventually, I launched my own business and started booking weddings, engagements, and lifestyle sessions. What started as a creative outlet to escape my structured, serious schedule has turned into a career that I truly love. Photography gives me both joy and flexibility, and I’m incredibly grateful to get to do something that feels this fun and fulfilling.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Switching to full-time photography wasn’t an easy decision. For a long time, I had other career aspirations, and photography wasn’t something I ever expected to pursue seriously. It started as a hobby—something fun and creative that brought me peace—but turning it into a career brought a wave of insecurity and self-doubt.

I struggled (and sometimes still do) with comparing myself to other photographers. There are days I question whether I’m good enough to be in this industry. The shift from doing something for joy to doing it for income came with real pressure—especially as I began to provide for my family through this work. There’s a weight to booking sessions and weddings, knowing how much is riding on it.

Still, despite the challenges, I feel incredibly grateful to do something I love. The freedom, the creativity, the connection with people—those are the things that keep me grounded and remind me why I started.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What first drew me to photography was the creative process.
I loved setting up shoots with friends—styling their outfits, choosing the perfect location, and bringing a vision to life through beautiful photos. Over time, as my work evolved, I discovered a deep passion for capturing weddings, engagement sessions, and family moments.

For me, photography has never been about stiff poses or perfect smiles. It’s about capturing what’s real and authentic—freezing time and telling the story of the season each client is in. The sessions and weddings that light me up the most are the ones that feel truly personal and unique to the people in front of my lens.

What sets me apart is the value I place on being slow and intentional. I take time to get to know each client, to understand who they are and what matters most to them. That connection shows up in the photos we create together—images that feel like them, not just another photo.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Patience has been one of the most important parts of my journey.
I’ve allowed my business to grow slowly and at a pace that felt sustainable in each season of life. As I’ve learned and evolved, I’ve tried to give myself the space to grow without rushing the process.

One thing that keeps me grounded is gratitude—for the work I do have, rather than disappointment over what I don’t. While I’m driven and love setting goals for myself, what feels most important is staying present. I’ve learned to trust that growth will come, but not at the cost of losing sight of where I am now.
