Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Pearce
Hi Claire, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from England. Before becoming a Boudoir Photographer, I was a hairstylist for many years. I loved the creative aspect of Hair, which led me to photography. I took some photography classes so that I could create editorial hair images and I fell in love with photography. In 2008 I went back to school to study Commercial Photography at Santa Monica College. It was during that time that I discovered ‘Boudoir’ Photography as a genre. It was just starting to become popular but was less known overall. By 2010 I had launched Unbuttoned Photography as a business. I graduated in 2012 from SMC. Over the years I have invested in lots of education that’s focused on Boudoir and also the business of photography.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think that the hardest part about Photography is that we have to be constantly marketing to find new clients. So I would say that the business and marketing side has been my biggest learning curve. I am finally at a place that I have most of that down now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Boudoir Photography for Empowering Women. What I love about Boudoir Photography is the impact that it has it on the client. To me I’m not JUST taking ‘Sexy’ photos, but I’m helping my clients heal those parts of themselves, that are impacted from trauma, abuse & societal pressures on looking a certain way. As well as having a background as a hairstylist, I was also a spiritual coach for 10yrs. Both careers have given me the tools to assist women in embracing their feminine side and guiding them to letting go of the negative self talk and towards loving themselves more fully. It’s very rewarding when clients tell me afterwards that the experience gave them a boost in confidence and that they walk taller now.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was always creative and very interested in how things work. My artistic abilities always came very naturally for me. In high School I was very into painting and drawing and almost went to Art School. I also loved animals and have a special place in my heart still.
