Conversations with Cara Parchment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cara Parchment.

Hi Cara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from college in 2010 and began my career in e-commerce, specializing in the resale of high-end designer fashion. After taking maternity leave, I joined Octane in 2016 originally on a part-time basis, which marked my transition into the innovation and events/conference space. Seven years ago, I began to lead programs and conferences across multiple sectors, including aesthetics, ophthalmology, and most recently, cardiovascular innovation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Transitioning from e-commerce into a new industry required learning quickly, building credibility from the ground up, and being comfortable not having all the answers at first. Joining Octane part-time after maternity leave came with its own challenges—juggling family responsibilities while reestablishing professional momentum and confidence. As I moved into leading large-scale events across aesthetics, ophthalmology, and cardiovascular, the stakes grew, along with the pressure to deliver meaningful, high-quality Forums. Each challenge, however, sharpened my ability to adapt, lead under pressure, and build strong relationships—skills that ultimately shaped the career I have today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in building highly curated programs within aesthetics, ophthalmology, and cardiovascular—bringing together physicians, founders, investors, and strategic partners in a way that drives real conversation and measurable outcomes. I’m known for creating events that are both content-driven and relationship-focused, where the right people are in the room and the programming is intentional, relevant, and forward-looking. We are never looking to be the biggest event in the country. We just want the right folks to attend.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built across these communities. Many of the events I lead have grown year over year, not just in size, but in quality—stronger speakers, deeper discussions, and more meaningful connections. I take pride in designing experiences that feel thoughtful and seamless for attendees while also delivering clear value to sponsors and partners.

What were you like growing up?
Being an only child made me independent from an early age. I grew up in New Jersey and moved to California in sixth grade, which was a formative experience—it pushed me out of my comfort zone at a young age and taught me how to adapt quickly, build new relationships, and find my footing in unfamiliar environments. Personality-wise, I became a blend of self-reliant and people-oriented: comfortable standing on my own, but genuinely interested in connecting with others. That early mix of independence, adaptability, and curiosity still shows up in how I approach my work and relationships today.
