Conversations with Brittany Serrano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Serrano.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey in the beauty industry right after I graduated high school. I started off doing makeup, playing around with it on my own some days until like 2AM just because I genuinely enjoyed it & then I started doing makeup on friends and family for quinceañeras, weddings, prom, etc. after getting comfortable working on other people I decided to look into taking a makeup course to further increase my comfortability and skill. I found this school My Beauty Mark Makeup Academy in Fontana, where I met and had @makeupbygilly as my instructor. He was amazingggg! After finishing the course there I spent some time still just doing makeup until around the end of 2020. I wanted to do something more than just makeup. I was working in the mental health field, which I loved, but have always been even more in love with the beauty industry so I started looking up beauty businesses in my area and found Body Sculpting. I followed this entrepreneur who does lashes and sculpting but also teaches courses to get certified to offer those services. I DM’d her for pricing and dates and signed up ASAP. After taking both classes, I still wanted more…which I then found out about Hyaluronic Acid Lip Fillers. I looked into it, did my research and found these girls that taught a class as well, so again, I signed up and took the class ASAP! After that class, I was so excited to announce to everyone that I had been taking classes to expand my service list when I came across anotherrrrr page on IG. I found another talented entrepreneur that teaches Microshading/Ombré Powder Brows so I decided to add that to my list of certifications as well.

After taking all these courses I rebranded my makeup page on IG to a beauty page. I made my own logo & chose a name. I had many different options that I was thinking about but ended up going with “BB Beautique.” Growing up, my nickname in the family was Bebe (like the brand) which is a part of the reason why I chose that name. I went with Beautique because I thought it was a cute play on words as a boutique simply for beauty! After choosing my name, of course, I had to set up a price list and forms of advertisement for my IG. The day that I decided to post about my new beauty business I had an incredible amount of love and support from all my friends and family it was so exciting! I couldn’t wait to start building my business and clientele. I have grown so much since I started and plan to continue growing from here. My next goal is to have a beauty studio or offer mobile services from a remodeled beauty van! I’m so excited and determined to continue to build this into my full-time career. I wouldn’t have been able to get this far without everyone’s support.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve had a smooth road, but it hasn’t been difficult either. There was a time before expanding my services when I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to stay in the mental health field or build in the beauty industry. I was definitely at a fork in the road because I knew if I wanted to take the beauty industry seriously I would have to dedicate more time to it which I wasn’t able to do while still working my other job. I absolutely loved mental health, I started working there right out of high school and loved working in that environment. When COVID hit, I quit my job and started taking all the classes to build my business and it’s been amazing ever since.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As of right now, my service list includes: Makeup Applications, Body Sculpting (which consists of: laser lipo, ultrasonic cavitation, radiofrequency, vacuum therapy, & non-invasive butt/breast lifting), Hyaluronic Acid Lip Fillers, Lash Extensions, Waxing & Microshading. What I would say sets me apart from others would be my constant drive to want to expand my business and setting multiple short & long-term goals for my business whenever I can.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say I have a very warm personality and always get along with everyone. Whenever I meet new clients they always tell me I make them feel so comfortable and it feels like we’ve known each other for a long time. I love socializing with people and genuinely love getting along with others. In a business where you’re constantly meeting new people and maintaining good client relationships, it’s important to make sure your clients feel comfortable around you. I personally have had experiences where I’ve gone into a business and haven’t necessarily felt welcome or even enjoyed my experience because of the technician that was working on me. Experiences like that make me not want to return to their business so I always go out of my way to make sure clients feel like we’re friends and not just a client coming in to pay for a service.

Pricing:

  • Makeup Application $65
  • Body Sculpting $75-115 (depends on service)
  • Lash Extensions $65-$100
  • HA Lip Fillers $150 per ml
