Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Barrios

Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Beauty has always been something I’ve been passionate about starting from when I was a little girl watching my mom always do her makeup and dye her hair any color you can think of. To when I was 10 and I started to work as a nail tech I would do all of my aunts/ cousins nails even adding acrylics. I got my first job at 15, working the beauty department at Tj Maxx where I spent almost all my money on makeup. When I graduated high school I didn’t have much of a plan. Almost a year later at 19 I had my daughter and I knew I had to do something with my life so I began cosmology school. I went to school the year Covid happened. School was closed and my job had also closed down. My daughter was young at the time and although I had family to help support i felt pressure within myself to start building my clients so i started to take house call appointments. Eventually I started working at a salon in Industry where I felt like I truly grew as a stylist i learned so much about blonding, blow drying , and extensions. However i also learned how not to treat people. i learned to set boundaries from the beginning and not allow anyone take advantage of me. I found my currant salon home on indeed where i truly feel welcomed and am now working on exposing myself more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey, has been difficult it almost didn’t get to begin I failed my written exam twice. My sister in law had to help me study almost everyday. After I overcame my struggle I had to learn how to be more self confident and assertive because my Industy is extremely competitive even if it’s just competing against your self to do better. I’ve also struggled financially because when your first starting having steady clients doesn’t usually happen at the jump you have to learn how to expose your self.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a hairstylist. I am better known for my color. I am popular for skills in color correcting, extreme blonding and my vibrant red heads. I am most proud of over coming my anxiety and being able to give my clients a stylist who is here to listen to them with patience and compassion, But deliver a boost of confidence with results they deserve. Something that sets me apart is when I do extreme lightening on my clients not only can I achieve results with my clients how’s base is later but also achieve results on clients how’s bases are a lot darker.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I have learned that my Industy will never die. Clients still wanted their hair done even mid pandemic when we were in crisis some people don’t understand the need people truly feel to look good. Looking your best to some clients really does boost their mental health and help them get through their day to day life:
