Conversations with Angelica Van

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Van.

Hi Angelica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Oakland, CA. I moved to LA in 2005 to pursue fashion, and did! As the daughter of a successful esthetician, becoming one was always in the back of my mind because I saw how much my mom loved it. However, I was terrified to pursue both careers at once.

In late 2019 I decided to take on the challenge and enroll myself in beauty school for the esthetics program starting January 2020. That’s right, 2020 before the world shut down! I had just built up the courage to take on evening classes on top of my demanding full-time career, then boom. Global pandemic!

Everything worked out and I was able to continue school once it was safe a year later in April 2021, but it did scare me in regards to where my skincare career would go. We were all a little… unsure about everything!

Fast forward, I graduated that same summer, then passed the state board exam and opened my business one week later in the fall. I’m a true believer of divine timing, and I can say that with determination, faith, and patience, I’m happier than ever. Also very appreciative of my journey.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have been very fortunate to have a smoother road, due to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that have presented themselves, and having the most amazing and consistent clientele. However, there are the rough patches of being a new business owner and making things make sense. I love being in the spa servicing my clients and having a ball. I had to check myself and remember this is a business, not just playtime. You have to make sure your business is in order on the business end! Your first tax season is one very humbling experience!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My brand is known for not just offering skin care services, but providing an experience. This has always been my goal from the brainstorming stages of The Pampered Club. I want my clients to feel like they’re not just spending their hard-earned money on a facial, but on an escape. I try to include as much energy in delivering atmosphere as I do on the actual treatment.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The biggest form of support is when a client sends a friend, family member, coworker, etc. I love when a new client tells me they were referred by someone else. I feel so fulfilled that I’ve provided them such a service that they’ve expressed their enjoyment to another person. Sometimes, I’m like really? You told them about me? Little ol’ me?! Also when my clients document their experiences on social media. It helps so much because their followers feel the passion behind my brand and want to check it out!
