Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Hurlin.
Chanel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Cape Town girl, born and bread and have always had a passion for the arts and entertainment. I’ve never wanted to be in another industry which has allowed me to work on my craft since I was a kid.
I started my TV hosting career at the age of 14 in South Africa on LIVE TV, however, after ten years in the industry, it was time to spread my wings and makes my dreams a reality in Hollywood. I moved halfway across the world with no plan, no sponsor, no job… only determination and faith that’ll all come together with a lot of hard work and determination.
After only three months in La La Land, I booked my first American TV Hosting gig, on the show The Buzz which I’m still a host on. I’ve interviewed people I’ve looked up to my whole life like Simon Cowell, Cat Deeley, Tyra Banks, Nicole Richie, Heidi Klum, Sterling K Brown, and Scooter Braun to name a few.
I also currently host on the first daily entrainment news show on Instagram called KIFF, alongside some of my best friends in the industry bringing our followers the latest on our fav celebrities.
As of late, I’m in the process of rebranding my lifestyle brand HELLO CHANELLO and have started documenting my fitness journey on my YouTube channel.
I’m still so far away from where I want to be in my career which is to host a reality completion show like America’s Got Talent, but Hollywood is now my home. This city is ruthless BUT I keep myself excited and positive for the opportunities that have and that are still coming my way.
I’m so lucky to have a wonderful foundation of friends and family who surround me with love and kindness every day and, of course, my baby girl Luna who makes any difficult time totally manageable with her puppy kisses.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! Every day is a struggle, tbh. 😂
I’ve been in this city for three years already and it hasn’t gotten easier. It’s alot more difficult these days to break into the hosting industry because there are no jobs and SO MANY hosts with the same dreams and determination. It’s both inspiring and challenging to be surrounded by like-minded people. Inspiring because we continue to push and motive each other, challenging because it’s so easier to compare and feel disheartened.
My advice now has changed compared to when I moved here in 2016. I thought it was going to be so easy… but I’ve been through it all and would highly recommend choosing this career path only if you’re 100% in it to win it. It’s so easy to doubt and give up but YOU CAN NOT. Keep your head up! Keep pushing! Be consistent! And be daring. 🙂
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a TV host, content creator, and entertainment writer.
As a human, I’m sensitive, gullible, extremely loyal and loving. I’m a doggie lover, a good listener, a girlfriend, an oat milk latte drinker, a tap dancer and a big dreamer.
As a host, what sets me apart is that I’m ME. “No one else is me and that is my power.”
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Don’t have a Plan B. Everything you do must bring you closer to your Plan A.
