Community Highlights: Meet Sally Simmons of Wave Maker Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Simmons.

Hi Sally, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Wave Maker Wellness grew from my own postpartum and motherhood journey. After becoming a mom of two, I found myself in the “messy middle”, trying to balance family, stress, movement, nourishment, and my own well-being while feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from myself.

Through that season, I learned that wellness does not have to be perfect or extreme to create real change. Small, intentional shifts in how I cared for my body, mind, and daily habits began creating ripple effects in every area of my life.

That experience led me to study holistic health coaching through Institute for Integrative Nutrition and eventually create Wave Maker Wellness. Today, I support people, especially moms, in building realistic wellness habits that help them feel calmer, more nourished, energized, and supported in the season of life they are in. My work is rooted in the belief that small waves of change can lead to lasting transformation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Wave Maker Wellness was built from the depths of postpartum during one of the darkest and messiest seasons of my life; a time when I personally felt stretched thin, overwhelmed, and honestly unsure of myself.

Becoming a mom of two and trying to function the way I always had, by “pushing through” hard seasons, cracked open a lot for me. I was trying to show up for everyone else while feeling disconnected from myself physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Building a business while balancing corporate life, motherhood, and my own wellness journey has also come with a lot of growing pains. My girls are still very young, so finding pockets of time to dedicate to building Wave Maker Wellness comes from a true belief in how impactful this work can be for moms in my community. I often find myself putting my three- and one-year-old to sleep and then working between naps, during bedtime, and in the small moments I can step away.

I have had to work through perfectionism and come to terms with the fact that building a business takes time. As someone with a marketing background, I have also had to learn how to share more raw, unfiltered parts of my life because that honesty is such a large part of motherhood, and the work I do with the moms I support.

One of the biggest lessons has been realizing that healing and growth are not linear. There are still hard days where I find myself burning the candle at both ends, but because of my holistic health coaching background, I now listen to what my body is signaling to me and allow myself to rest. In the past, I often pushed myself all the way to burnout.

Those experiences shaped the heart behind my work. I never wanted to create a version of wellness that feels unattainable or performative. I wanted to create a space where women feel seen in the messy middle and supported through it.

I wanted Wave Maker Wellness to feel like coaching from someone who sees the full story. Someone who can help moms recognize when to lean in, when to pull back, and how to care for themselves without guilt along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wave Maker Wellness is a holistic health coaching business focused on helping women (especially moms) create realistic, sustainable habits that support their mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

My work blends holistic health coaching, movement, mindset support, stress management, and nutrition in a way that feels approachable and supportive rather than overwhelming.

What sets Wave Maker Wellness apart is that I focus on real life, not perfection. I believe wellness should fit into your season of life, especially motherhood, instead of adding more pressure. Much of my work is rooted in helping women navigate the “messy middle” with more self-awareness, balance, and compassion.

I am most proud of building a brand that feels honest, relatable, and deeply human. Whether through coaching, workshops, or content, my goal is to create a space where women feel seen, supported, and empowered to make small shifts that create lasting ripple effects.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I take big, but calculated risks often. Those moments usually pop up when I feel a strong pull that something could lead to growth, even if it does not look linear on the outside.

One of the biggest risks my husband and I took was moving from Kentucky to California coming up on five years ago. It was a full reset: new state, new community, and no clear roadmap of what life would look like on the other side. We knew we wanted to bet on a lifestyle change before we had kids.

In my own career, I’ve also made several non-linear choices. After finishing my MBA, I was in the middle of exploring a franchise opportunity and waiting for it to unfold, but I was also feeling burnt out and needing something different. Around that time, I stepped into dog walking as a short-term pivot. What started as a “in-between” decision turned into a really grounding season, I was making good money, building community, falling in love with South Bay and becoming one of the top dog walkers in the area. At the end of my dog walking era I was tracking close to 18 miles a day.

At the time, it felt like a strange move to step away from a traditional corporate path into something so different, but I’ve learned that I tend to trust myself in those in-between moments. Even when something doesn’t make sense on paper, I usually know when I need space to reset, recalibrate, and reconnect with what I actually want.

That same mindset is what eventually led me into marketing, entrepreneurship, and now building Wave Maker Wellness. I have been building something that feels aligned.
