Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Marchant.

Hi Raquel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From Vet School Dreams to Real Estate Visionary: A 35-Year Journey

After graduating from Crescenta Valley High School in 1990, I started working at a stock brokerage while attending College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. It didn’t take long for me to realize that early mornings behind a desk weren’t for me. At the time, I was studying business and preparing for a future in veterinary medicine—but life had other plans.

My mom was a police officer in Beverly Hills. The only safe and affordable place she could buy a home was in Santa Clarita. Because she worked nights, I was the one accompanying her real estate agents and touring potential homes. I didn’t know it then, but that experience would light a fire in me. I enrolled in Real Estate Principles as an elective and was lucky to have a professor who recognized my potential. He encouraged me to sit for the California real estate exam—and I got licensed that same year, in 1990.

At 19, I jumped into the industry, selling new homes for builders across Southern California. I joined Re/Max and was paired with a mentor who helped me see how far I could go. Though I still believed I might one day pursue veterinary school, my path continued to evolve. When I was 30 and just a few classes shy of applying to vet school, I found out I was pregnant. That moment changed everything. I felt strongly that God was calling me to stay in real estate.

Looking back, I think my drive came in part from the challenges I faced growing up. I’ve always been an overachiever. I took every real estate class I could find, earned my broker’s license at 27, and even became a notary and loan officer. I opened my own company, offering a full-service experience for clients—real estate, lending, and guidance under one roof. That model really took off and became the foundation of my career.

I bought my first home at 19, and that moment cemented my passion for helping others do the same. My mission has always been to help clients build generational wealth through smart real estate decisions. I often say, “I’m not a regular agent—I don’t just stick a sign in your yard and hope for the best.” I’m a strategic, out-of-the-box broker. I listen carefully to what my clients are trying to achieve, and then I create a plan to get them there.

This career has never been a hobby—it’s my calling. It’s how I serve God every day: by protecting people and helping them protect their real estate assets. I spend about 75% of my time working directly with clients, and the remaining 25% mentoring newer agents and loan officers. I’m licensed to do loans in California and Tennessee, and I sell homes in California, Tennessee, and Nevada.

When my business partner of 10 years moved to Nashville during COVID, we didn’t let geography stop us. We built a business plan to expand our team into Tennessee, allowing her to stay active in real estate while keeping our partnership strong. It’s been a tremendous blessing, and our success has exceeded all expectations.

Thirty-five years later, I can confidently say that I’m right where I’m supposed to be. I’ve helped countless families realize their dreams—and I’m just getting started.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. I had very young parents that were married at 16. My father went into the Marines and shortly after that was sent overseas. My parents split up by the time I was 6. I raised my older brother and myself as my mom was trying to make money to put food on the table. We were poor. At 15 I was having some major medical issues. I was sexually assalted and was not sleeping at all. I was staying up all night and barley made it to high school. My family did not understand and still forced me to go to school everyday. My body was getting sicker by the day. I was having stomach issues that was frustrating till I was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at 18. I withdrew from my peers and was in a deep depression. I have 5 autoimmune diseases today and live in constant pain. Pain from my feet to my neck. There were days where I couldn’t even get out of bed. Life is not easy, but I get up and as an empath, search for those that need someone to stand up for them. I don’t usually have to look hard, my phone rings constantly and that helps me get through my day. Helping others makes me forget about my own issues.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Real Estate Mamas?
We proudly go by SC ΓEA⅃ Estate Mamas in California and TN ΓEA⅃ Estate Mamas in Tennessee. And because we mentor men as well, we added Good Day Home Team to our business plan to serve even more families.

My partner, Kimberly Thurman, and I are both moms of three, and the majority of our team members are also moms. The name “Mamas” felt right from the beginning—even though some people told us not to use it. We wanted a brand that reflected what it really means to juggle life, family, and work. Being a mom is one of the toughest jobs out there, and we wanted to insulate our clients from the stress and drama that can happen during a real estate transaction so they could focus on their families.

Service is in our blood. My husband is a retired Battalion Chief from Glendale Fire, Kim’s husband is a retired Beverly Hills Police Officer, my mom was a retired BHPD Detective, and my father was a lifelong Marine. We love helping those who dedicate their lives to helping others—it brings us so much joy to give back in that way.

Beyond buying and selling, we also flip homes and manage both commercial and residential properties for our clients. We’re not afraid to invest in our clients’ homes when we know it will help them earn significantly more money. For us, it’s about treating clients like family—protecting their bottom line and showing them how to create lasting generational wealth.

We often work with complex scenarios: families facing foreclosure, mental health struggles, hoarding situations, or complicated divorces. We also help young adults weighed down with student loans or poor credit. With a clear plan, most are closing on a home faster than they ever imagined. If you give us a scenario—no matter how complicated—we’ll create a roadmap, guide you step by step, and get you to the finish line.

We don’t advertise, yet year after year we consistently rank in the top 5% of agents locally and often even in the top 1%. At the end of the day, our business is about people, family, and service. That’s what makes us proud to be the ΓEA⅃ Estate Mamas. I always say “God, Family, Real Estate”.

I forgot to mention my husband is a Realtor and so is my 20 year old son, Pierce Marchant. It is a family thing.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
One of the things I absolutely love about living and working in Los Angeles is the diversity—not just of the people, but of the homes and neighborhoods too. From historic Spanish bungalows to sleek modern estates, every block has its own character and story. The city is full of energy, culture, and creativity, and that carries over into real estate.

No two days are ever the same here. One day I might be helping a family with their first condo, the next I’m walking through a hillside property with sweeping views, or working with an investor on a multi-unit building. The variety keeps me challenged, inspired, and excited to do what I do.

Los Angeles is a place where everyone belongs, and that’s reflected in the clients we serve and the homes we help buy and sell. It’s a city of endless opportunities—and I feel lucky to call it home.

I dislike the politics. I dislike the evil in people. I dislike seeing the hate. I pray for Light and Love.
