Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Carter.

Lauren Carter

Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from the Midwest, near Chicago. My father was a patent attorney, my mother initially a journalist then became a housewife. I was encouraged in the arts from day one, and my first love was ballet, which I started at the age of two! This was followed by piano from age five, acting class from age five, and eventually discovered my voice around the age of nine and was known as the girl with the big pipes in my school talent shows and began private voice lessons around the age of 13. From the beginning, I was groomed to pursue a professional performance career and decided to apply to be a voice major. The main obstacle for me growing up was that I grew up in a small town in the Midwest – not exactly a hub of entertainment. That’s ok because I was not thinking of Hollywood but more of a career in opera and theatre, which follow a more long-term academic path, which is what I did pursue. I ended up attending Northwestern University, where I majored in classical vocal performance and minored in musical theater.

Eventually, I also earned my Master’s Degree in voice in the UK, where I lived and worked in entertainment for four years. I now perform with several different duos, trios, and ensembles in Los Angeles, and have a recording career behind me, and run my own vocal coaching business, Lauren Carter Vocal Coaching. Because of the many prongs, my career has taken me along the way – including a lot of work in the fashion and visual side of things, I not only train musicians in my studio, I also offer artist development services, which include the production of publicity photos, music videos, access to my network of music producers, publicists, and more. I’ve also recently launched my wardrobe subscription service, Lauren Elizabeth’s Style Box. So, I have several endeavors going on at once, which suit my personality and diverse professional experiences.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t call it all entirely smooth, but I’m really grateful for all the things I’ve been able to do, and it’s always been interesting, stimulating, and enriching. The main struggles have been learning as I go and definitely at times not having enough security, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and I have an entrepreneurial sense partly because I had to develop this to survive. I have learned not to rely on others, and I learned I have a great ability to help and guide others, which is not something I saw in myself at a younger age. I definitely feel I’ve forged a path for myself that is uniquely mine. Not many people come from my hometown and pursue entertainment. I’m pretty proud of myself for being true to myself and somehow ending up with a home and business in LA, a stint living abroad in the UK, plenty of travels, amazing friends, and an established business of my own that I am able to run while still pursuing my own music, and most recently, more work in the fashion industry which I also love. I’m loving the current chapter and look forward to the year ahead and have several pet projects I’m looking forward to release.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I provide a comprehensive one-stop shop for aspiring singers, as well as piano coaching. My studio not only provides music instruction but artist development. My mission is to provide a one-stop solution for musicians in search of artist development. Building on two decades of personal experience and trusted connections, I provide artists with a hands-on approach to launch into the industry and continuously succeed.

What makes you happy?
I just got back from the French Riviera, and honestly that pretty much makes me as happy as you can get. The quality of light, the colors, the people, the winding streets, the food, the wine, and the pleasure of having an adventure with no set plans in a foreign country – that’s my happy place.
