Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Welker.
Hi Lacey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After graduating from college, I moved to Los Angeles from Chico, CA. and began working as a behavioral therapist for children with Autism. During these years, I helped my best friend through labor and delivery, and if it weren’t for this special nurse working her shift at Cedars, telling me “you’re a natural, you should be a doula!” – I may not have known the world of Birth Doulas. I quickly gravitated toward studying to become a doula. After shifting my career as a birth doula, I naturally, evolved into postpartum support and received my certifications as a Newborn Care Specialist. The following years I balanced life as a birth doula and “night nurse.” Many of these families had called me back to come sleep train months later. I then found my true calling. SLEEP. I had previous experience as a nanny, but wanted to know more. I emerged myself into sleep consulting and furthered my education to become a certified sleep consultant.
I started my company “Catching Baby Zzz” in 2015. Since then, have narrowed my craft in sleep support for newborns up to 5 years old, and have been helping families worldwide with their sleep struggles. My expertise has been built in the field, through years of hands-on experience, countless overnights, and a dedication to ongoing education that has carried me to every success story along the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every professional journey comes with struggle, and mine has been no exception. But those struggles are what have made me better at what I do. I learn something from every single case.
One of the biggest lessons has been that this work is never just point A to point B. I come with strong methods, and I bring a deep understanding of child development at every age, but none of that replaces the fact that every family is different. The individualized component isn’t an add-on; it’s the foundation.
That means communication has to be clear from the very first conversation. Expectations need to be established early. And assumptions, even well-intentioned ones, have no place in this work. I’d rather be repetitive than leave anything open to interpretation.
And perhaps most importantly, I’ve learned that one of the most powerful things I can do for a family is simply to stop and listen. Really listen. My expertise matters, but so does making sure every parent feels heard.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am Lacey Welker, Owner of Catching Baby Zzz. I specialize in Pediatric Sleep ranging from newborns to 5 years old. I’ve had the privilege of helping transform the lives of more than 1,000 families, and that number means everything to me.
I believe deeply that every parent deserves support, especially when sleep deprivation can make everything feel impossible. What I offer goes beyond a sleep plan. Through personalized guidance, genuine validation, and attentive follow-up, I walk alongside each family through their journey, not just until they meet their goals, but until they feel equipped, empowered, and confident in their own instincts as parents.
My greatest measure of success isn’t just a baby who sleeps through the night. It’s a parent who feels like they can handle whatever comes next.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In my profession, I reframe what most people call “risk” because for me, true risk means the possibility of harm to a baby or a family who has placed their complete trust in me. That’s not something I take lightly. So before I ever take on a case, I conduct a thorough assessment of both the child’s readiness and the parents’ readiness for sleep training. That careful evaluation is how I manage risk responsibly.
What I do embrace wholeheartedly are challenges, and there’s an important difference. Every challenge for me is an opportunity to learn and grow from and that makes me more skilled and more compassionate. I’ve worked through many difficult cases, and each one has sharpened my skills, deepened my understanding, and made me better at my job. I don’t shy away from hard situations. I lean into them, because that’s how I continue to raise the standard of care and success I provide to families.
