Community Highlights: Meet Kevin Wallace of The Punch Club LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Wallace

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started boxing at a time when I was looking to improve my personal fitness, and I quickly realized it was a never-ending challenge—there was always more to learn, new skills to refine, and limits to push. Having grown up playing sports, boxing challenged me in a way I had never experienced before. After years of fitness boxing, I developed a passion for sparring, which helped ignite a true love for the sport.

As I continued training, I had the opportunity to start coaching, and that’s when I realized I could help people in ways I never imagined. Coaching gave me a new sense of purpose, and over time, it became clear that my path was leading me away from the hospitality industry and toward something I truly loved. Opening my own boxing gym felt inevitable.

The Punch Club started as an idea—to bring people together and introduce them to boxing in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. When we opened our first location, the energy and support from the community helped shape the culture of the gym, creating an infectious vibe that still defines us today. Over the past two years, we’ve worked to build a space where people of all levels can develop boxing skills, improve their fitness, connect with others, and have an outlet to let loose whenever they need it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest hurdle was believing in myself enough to take the risk—leaving behind something comfortable to start a business that I hoped would be both fulfilling and successful. But with the unwavering support of my wife, friends, and family, I knew failure wasn’t an option. Opening the doors on day one was terrifying, not knowing if anyone would walk in, but looking back, I’m so grateful I took the leap.

Another major challenge has been the sheer amount of time and energy it takes to build something from nothing. Turning an idea into a thriving gym has been both incredibly rewarding and extremely demanding. In the early months, I worked long, grueling hours to lay the foundation, doing everything myself until I was finally able to bring on other coaches for support. It’s been an exhausting but fulfilling journey, and seeing The Punch Club grow has made every sacrifice worth it.
