Community Highlights: Meet Juan Collazo “DJ John” of The Wedding Entertainment Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Collazo “DJ John”.

DJ John, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are an all-encompassing collective of professionals with over seven years in the wedding and nightlife industry. We began our journey heavily involved in the San Diego Nightlife and maintained large contracts for many years with some of the most prestigious nightclubs in Southern California. Our team brings the nightlife experience and innovation to our wedding events by producing unique, exceptional and distinctive events tailored to every one of our couples!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been an incredibly challenging and tough journey to say the least. At the beginning, the biggest struggle for us was getting approved to provide entertainment for the already established Wedding venues all over So-Cal. Since most venues operate within a “preferred vendor’s” list system, it was virtually impossible to break into this business. But after a few events and although it wasn’t easy, we were able to quickly prove that we were more than qualified to provide phenomenal and professional entertainment that created lifelong priceless memories!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Wedding Entertainment Collective?
As wedding professionals, we do so much more than play music and operate a Photobooth. Our goal is to make a real connection with our clients and treat their special day as if it were our own. We hold a very high standard and a sincere level of commitment to both our clients and our company. We meet with our clients regularly to establish a level of comfort and spend time finalizing all details related to the event. We collaborate with other wedding professionals working at the event to ensure a smooth delivery of all formalities. Equal parts business and pleasure, we are in the industry of creating happiness, fun, and lifelong relationships because the value of a memorable experience is priceless!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We are starting to notice that couples are becoming less extravagant and more minimalistic. When we first began our journey in this industry seven years ago, couples opted for more elaborate wedding setups and wanted the big tv’s, the metal truss rigs, the giant speakers, and crazy lights, fog, lasers, etc. Now, we are starting to see that couples prefer a more basic setup that can easily be hidden or that blends in with the rest of the decor for their special day. Couples now more than ever want to be the center of attention versus in the past. Before, the DJ used to be the center of attention at the wedding. Behind their overbearing and obtrusive DJ booths which were almost always setup next to the sweetheart table and as a result, you would get this random DJ in all of your pretty pictures along with speaker poles and PA systems in every photo. This would really take away from the vibe at the wedding and ruin the natural feel and aesthetic of the venue. We now offer a basic, minimalistic setup which encompasses and provides everything a quality PA and lighting system should deliver at a wedding.
