Community Highlights: Meet John Barton of Point ‘N Save

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Barton.

Hi John, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At Point ‘N Save, we create mobile apps for cities, chambers of commerce, and other non-profits to help them modernize what they have to offer to the community. What really sets us apart is that we create user-friendly and intuitive mobile apps for cities, chambers, and non-profits that allow them to connect with the next generation while also generating revenue.

The most important factor behind our success at Point ‘N Save would be our ability to pivot. When we first started back in 2018, we set out to make a singular app for students. But after going through the Cal State Fullerton Startup Incubator, we realized we had a technology that other businesses would want to brand as their own. That’s when we pivoted to helping non-profits have their own app as well!

We now work with 32 organizations in 18 different states throughout the country. We feel that we have really discovered a great niche for our technology. That’s why we are so proud of what we do for these organizations. We believe we have something that is modernizing the way they operate.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was difficult in the beginning to find the right market.

When we first started, we set out to make a singular app for students. But after testing the viability of that market with our mentors at the CSUF Startup Incubator, we realized we wouldn’t be able to scale with that singular model.

We then approached different businesses that we felt were lacking in the tech space. We came across a few chambers of commerce that needed help attracting a younger generation of members. From there we saw that many other chambers needed our help and we then branched out to helping entire cities and communities to have their own app as well!

We are most proud of the fact that we work with so many great non-profits and organizations all over the country. All of our communities have really embraced our modernized approach to showcasing what they have to offer to their members and their community.

What makes you happy?
A lot of things make me happy. For example, spending time with friends and family.

From a business standpoint, I would say being able to create this business from scratch and then provide something that other people and organizations love to use is what makes me happy.

And the fact that if you persevere and listen to your team and your customers you can achieve great success!
