Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Tan
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Sports and exercise have always been a part of my life. Growing up, my parents put me in every sport I wanted to play. In high school I was on the soccer team and ran track. My interest in the field grew after I suffered a knee injury while high jumping and broke my ankle playing basketball. I was always amazed watching my physical therapists help me and their other patients recover from their injuries. That interest turned into a passion to become a physical therapist myself. Certain life events happened and I fell in love with personal training. I feel that I am able to work as a type of physical therapist and help clients either work through lingering injuries or make positive changes to their lifestyle. I have a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from CSULA as well as a Master of Science in kinesiology from Cal Baptist University. I started personal training in 2010 at Gold’s Gym and worked at various other gyms and companies. In 2021, I decided to take a leap and start my own company and Tan & Fit became a reality. Currently, I am based out of Pasadena but travel all over the greater Los Angeles area. In addition to traveling, I also train at private facilities in Arcadia and Pasadena.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path has definitely not been all smooth sailing. As with anyone, a slew of major personal issues have come and gone through the years. The single biggest event that I could not be more grateful for was the birth of my daughter. Though I would not trade being a father for anything in the world, being a parent is definitely a challenge. Having to juggle co-parenting, school, homework, extra curricular activities is quite the challenge.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tan & Fit?
I have a personal training business that offers in person 1-on- 1, small group, as well as hybrid and fully online programs. I am fully mobile with all necessary equipment in my car. I mainly travel to my clients all over the greater Los Angeles area and also train at private facilities in Arcadia and Pasadena. I specialize in strength training and building muscle, though I will always have a special place in my heart for rehab. I feel the biggest aspect of myself and my business that set me apart is that my clients don’t stay clients for very long. All of my clients very quickly become friends and some even family. I believe that type of care allows my clients to not only reach their goals but have as much fun as possible doing it. I want our session to be something that is looked forward to and not dreaded.
How do you define success?
I define success as “how fulfilled do you feel?”. The main reason I do what I do is because I love helping being reach their goals and feel better about themselves. When I have someone tell that they now fit into clothes they haven’t been able to wear in years or they are now comfortable to go out in a swimsuit, I can’t help but have a huge smile and feel about as happy as a kid in a candy shop. As much as I do this to make a living, these wins, big or small, help give me that feeling of success.
