Today we’d like to introduce you to De’Shawn Sho Tyme Watkins.
Hi De’Shawn Sho Tyme, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started off doing a comedy show which was August 31, 2019 and after a successful comedy show that I put in my backyard, I figured why not bring Wrestling to Compton that would be really cool so I planned on putting wrestling show in my backyard which was October 26, 2019
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles with running a business is also overcoming individual traumas that you have as a man and you have to understand that in business, things are business and not personal but sometimes it’s hard to separate it also learning all the new business things and not having really a background and running anything as far as a business it’s kind of challenging but it’s fun.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Comptonmania?
Comptonmania we bring wrestling in all forms of entertainment to our audience we also link up with local vendors really good food vendors and just people who are really into business we also link up with a lot of Artis that are really good that they craft and we make some in together what we have going on with the wrestling. Now me Sho Tyme Watkins, I am known for since I was five years old to do plays been in a drama club at Long Beach Jordan did many shows once on this island, Dreamgirls called on Broadway, I am also a standup comedian a writer, I’m really good at putting people together and things together. There are a lot of Wrestling companies in SoCal the things set me apart is the fact that we are community-based our community is a part of Compton Mania imagine watching wrestling but with your neighbor who it’s a part of their life together, not just something you’re watching that you can’t be a part of the Comptonmania is something that everyone can be a part of.
I really want people to understand that Compton Mania comes from a very rich place in Compton my dad Cosmo from Palmer block Compton Crip was the OG and he was murdered back in 1987 I was only two years old but the house on Laurel Street was a place of refuge that all kinds of people came to and that house was the house that everybody knew there could be no drama and that same house is the house where we create a Comptonmania it is a family thing it is rich history and his most definitely a Compton thing but it will be a worldwide thing, Our goal is to build a hub where we can employ a lot of people in the city give job experiences also able to feed the community serve the community and give them the best entertainment that they could ever see and also when we travel in a go other places they will see that we take the spirit of Compton with us everywhere we go so now a lot of children who are from that area that are not too proud of their city they can have something that they can be proud of and represent to the fullest Comptonmania
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see us in the next 5 to 10 years having a place in a building or will put on wrestling shells and in the summer also have summer camp for kids so they can learn how to film learn how to wrestle we can teach him improvisations and also help build the city and also have a little living quarters or like a little motel stay for wrestlers literally live off of $25 and a mayonnaise sandwich so to be able to create a form where wrestlers can get away also, help people get over some of her addictions my mom was addicted to drugs for years and now she’s overcoming have also a spot where people can come and do church AA meetings and drug anonymous meetings because a lot of wrestlers also deal with addiction problems I also want to have therapist because Wrestler‘s deal with a lot of personal problems that they have to learn how to deal with and also wrestle I also want to have the best medical facility where I’m able to take care of the talents of my best abilities.
Imagine having a place where your kid can learn a trade and no matter what he get into in life you’ll always have something that he can always or she can always fall back on, now on the ambitious level I would love to do major shows and Compton to get the whole city out so we can unite the city one of the biggest issues in the city is we have a low voter turn out and what that means is that a lot of the youth and the kids and even residence in Compton we don’t really get what we want in our city or city don’t always serve us because the wrong people are in office so basically creating a hub where everyone can come together and voice their opinions and politicians will be held accountable Comptonmania is about accountability it’s about pride in us about culture entertainment it’s just one of the things that we specialize in but giving somebody an opportunity they can change the world, That’s what we want to lead in and my goal of 2026 is to sell out so five stadium and 30 seconds break the record.
