Community Highlights: Meet Brittany Crawford of Snatchgang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Crawford.

Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started doing hair at the age of 12 years old. Going to the hair salon every week with my mom sparked major interest.

After high school, I started working as an assistant for a very popular hairstylist. He was a mentor. I learned so much behind the chair and about the beauty industry from him. I attended Aveda for my cosmetology license. Later on, went back for my cosmetology instructor’s license.

After putting in hours as an assistant, I got my own chair and built a clientele for myself. With hard work and dedication, I’m now a salon owner. Approaching my 5th year anniversary in December.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe nothing worth having is a smooth ride! This industry is a roller coaster. You have to consistently reinvent yourself. Stay updated with the trends. Attack social media in a strategic way where it benefits your business. Doing footwork means telling people who you are, what you do, and how you can be of service to them.

We’ve been impressed with Snatchgang, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Snatched is another way of saying your hair is laid. Snatchgang is a group of women from all walks of life. Who take pride in their personal appearance. I’m personally fulfilled in assisting and watching confidence come back from something as simple as a haircut or new color.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We will be celebrating our 5th year anniversary in December. I made it thru a pandemic as a small business owner.

We took home the Detroit Choice Award this year under the “favorite hair salon” category.

After years of teaching at Snatchgang Jr Academy, I am working on opening my own cosmetology school for adults.
