Community Highlights: Meet Bree Solomon & Charly Reynoso of Black Diamond Tattoo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree Solomon & Charly Reynoso. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Charly began tattooing in the early ’90s in Mexico City. He quickly found a clientele base there and began to develop a distinct style and name for himself. Bree was amidst a career in Film & Television working for NBCUniversal in production management when the two met it seemed like a perfect fit to establish and grow Black Diamond Tattoo in 2008. The original storefront was built on Lincoln Blvd near Rose, in the iconic city of Venice. We started with four tattooers and one front counter person, and over the last almost decade and a half, we’ve grown to 9 tattooers, 3 front counter people, and 2 apprentices. It’s been quite a ride and we can’t wait to see what the next decade brings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been struggles, but failure and discomfort make the best teachers. A number of years ago we learned how one person can change the entire dynamic of the entire group, and sometimes you have to make a hard decision to remove that person for the greater good of the group. We’ve also learned how to be teammates, to listen to one another and to look after one another. You can’t build something like this by yourself, it’s a team effort and credit is definitely given to everyone here.

Black Diamond Tattoo was established in 2008. Our team of talented artists each brings their own personal style to the shop and specializes in a specific genre of tattooing. We have friends and guest artists coming from all over the world to work with us and share their experiences which are then passed on to our clients. We specialize in a custom form of tattooing where each design is created unique for the client, and we strive to ensure that each client leaves us happy and excited about their tattoo. We take on tattoo requests of all sizes, large or small, and we make sure regardless of size each client gets the absolute best service and experience with us.
