Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Cabrera Jakucs. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Andrea stumbled upon social work through her role of managing a residential facility for adults diagnosed with mental illness. The residents would often talk to her about their difficulties so she found herself listening and providing support. She has also seen her loved ones struggle with their own mental health which motivated her to pursue her Master’s in Social Work with an emphasis on Adults and Healthy Aging at the University of Southern California.
As a licensed clinical social worker, she offers a variety of mental health and wellness services. Today she provides individual psychotherapy to a range of clients which includes Filipino immigrants, African-Americans experiencing stress, and adults diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety, and/or other mental health conditions. She also conducts wellness workshops such as Mental Health First Aid, Staying Well at Work, and more for non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 Companies. In addition, she provides business consultations to mental health professionals needing support with their private practice. She is an experienced speaker and has presented at conferences and news networks to discuss wellness practices, the stigma of mental illness and to encourage individuals to seek mental health services. She is passionate about wellness and deeply cares about providing the highest quality of mental health and wellness services to her clients.
She was born in the Philippines and was a previous board member of the California Social Welfare Archives. She is the founder of the Filipino American Mental Health Professionals Facebook Group, chief executive officer of Wellness with Andrea Jakucs & Associates, and co-host of Mag-Usap Mondays.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I faced struggles along the way such as work burnout, pregnancy, work stress, and the pressure I put on myself. As an entrepreneur, you can make your own schedule which can be nice but also taxing. I have overbooked myself before with multiple commitments or patients, leading to burnout but learning my limitations. In addition, my recent pregnancy was tough because I wasn’t able to work out as I used to which definitely impacted my mood and at times, not having the energy to do things.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My mission is to help individuals recover from their distress, empower organizations and people to reach their goals and share my knowledge about mental health and wellness with the world. I provide individual psychotherapy for adults in English and Tagalog, Wellness Workshops, Speaking Engagements, and Business Consultations. My work has been featured in news outlets such as Fox 11 Los Angeles, Los Angeles Times, NBC News, Canada’s Omni News, and Balitang America. You can book your FREE consult at www.wellnesswithandreajakucs.com.
What makes you happy?
Seeing my daughter in between my psychotherapy meetings makes me happy as a new mom. Her smile and wonder are genuinely fascinating and warm my heart. In addition, seeing my clients progress in psychotherapy makes me happy. It’s been an honor helping my clients move from severe depression to zero depression.
