Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Vince.
Hi Abbey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, born and raised in Long Beach, California. I initially set out to pursue a career in international relations, attending American University in Washington, D.C., with the goal of working for the UN and helping people on a global scale. However, I quickly realized that international relations was more policy-driven than I anticipated, and I missed the opportunity to connect with people on a more personal level.
That realization led me to pivot to psychology—a field where I could make a direct impact. Once I made the switch, everything clicked. My academic performance improved, and I felt genuinely fulfilled. My passion for this work is deeply rooted in both my family and personal experiences. My grandmother, who became a therapist in her 40s after raising four children and having two previous careers, has always been an inspiration. I’ve also been shaped by the guidance of my own therapists over the years.
While completing my master’s, I worked in a community practice in Orange County, and I’ve recently started working in a private practice in Redondo Beach. In addition to therapy, I’ve spent the past eight years as an ocean lifeguard. That experience has taught me a lot about human behavior through observation, and it continues to inform how I show up for my clients.
Helping people has always been at the core of who I am, and becoming a therapist has allowed me to do just that—by listening, understanding, and supporting others through meaningful, one-on-one connection.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, I’d say the road has been relatively smooth—though not without a few unexpected turns. I truly believe I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received is to “follow the journey,” and that mindset has led me to places I never expected. I never imagined myself in private practice or developing such a strong passion for working with kids and teens, but that’s where the journey took me.
One of the more challenging points came after completing my master’s program. The job search took longer than I anticipated, which brought some uncertainty, but I was fortunate to be in a position where I could take my time and be intentional about finding the right fit. That process ultimately led me to Taylor Elyse and Associates, where I felt an instant connection with Taylor and the practice. It truly felt like home.
Now, I’m in the exciting process of building my own practice—Abbey Rose Therapy—within Taylor Elyse and Associates. It’s been a deeply fulfilling experience to grow something of my own within a space that aligns so closely with my values and goals. As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, supervision is an essential part of the process, and I’ve been incredibly lucky to have supportive and inspiring supervisors who’ve helped shape my development.
Looking back, every twist and turn has led me to this moment, and I’m grateful for all of it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Abbey Rose Therapy, my work centers around supporting children, teens, and young adults, with a special passion for working with those navigating high-pressure environments—particularly athletes. Whether it’s performance anxiety, identity development, emotional regulation, trauma, or simply the challenges of growing up, I provide a grounded, relational approach rooted in empathy and collaboration. As an athlete myself, I understand the unique mental and emotional demands that come with competitive environments, and that lived experience helps me build genuine connections with young athletes and high-performing individuals. That said, my practice is not limited to one population—I work with a wide variety of clients, including adults and families, supporting them through anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and relationship struggles. I incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and narrative therapy into my work, helping clients process past experiences while reshaping the stories they tell about themselves. Abbey Rose Therapy was built from a place of purpose and alignment—rooted in the belief that healing happens in safe, supportive relationships. Working within Taylor Elyse & Associates, I’m proud to offer deeply personalized care within a collaborative and values-driven team. Whether you’re a teen navigating identity, an athlete managing pressure, a parent seeking support for your child, or an adult looking to reconnect with yourself, Abbey Rose Therapy offers a space where meaningful, lasting change can begin.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I always welcome connection—whether you’re seeking therapy, looking to collaborate, or just want to learn more. The best way to get started is by reaching out to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. This gives us a chance to talk about what you’re going through, what kind of support you’re looking for, and how we might work together. My goal is to help you take that first step on your therapeutic journey—whether that means working with me or helping you find someone who’s the right fit. I feel honored to be part of anyone’s path toward healing, growth, and clarity, and I’m always happy to connect.
