Today we’d like to introduce you to Aarani.
Hi Aarani, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for helping moms began when I experienced my own difficult transition to motherhood in 2021. I struggled with breastfeeding my son and subsequently struggled with postpartum anxiety and depression. Finding an amazing IBCLC to help me reach my breastfeeding goals as well as finding a support system of new moms saved me and helped me discover the joy in motherhood. The experience was so fundamentally life-changing that it inspired me to pivot from my career in medical devices and pursue a career in lactation consulting. I gained my clinical experience and mentorship under Shelly Jacobs in Costa Mesa, CA. My family then relocated to the Greater Boston area in 2025, where I’ve been working in my own private practice, R&R Motherhood, to provide compassionate and inclusive lactation care to families.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While this is the most rewarding job I have ever had, it has certainly been challenging moving across the country and starting a private practice in a brand new area where no one knows me. The insurance landscape is different in Massachusetts compared to California, so that has also been a challenge getting in-network with insurances out here so that families can access care. And it has of course been a steep learning curve to figure out social media, an area of the business that I never really realized how much effort it truly takes until I started doing it. Yet despite the challenges and the constant learning, it has been one of the most incredible experiences building my community here in the Boston area. It has felt like everything in my life has been ultimately leading me to this career path and this place.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My lactation consultant private practice is called R&R Motherhood. I chose the name in honor of my children, Reyan and Rosie, and the goal of helping new parents find some “R&R” in their feeding journeys. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, I provide in-person feeding support for families in Arlington, MA and the surrounding communities as well as virtual support worldwide. I am experienced working with breastfeeding dyads, exclusive pumpers, bottle feeding, issues with latch and positioning, oversupply, mastitis, bottle refusal, weaning and everything in between. I firmly believe that lactation care is a right and am passionate about making quality care accessible to all families. This is why I provide free weekly feeding support groups in Arlington to give new moms the chance to find community and get evidence-based care from an IBCLC. I know firsthand how much of a difference it can make to have support in this vulnerable transition time to parenthood and I am honored to walk alongside families in their feeding journeys.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I never really viewed myself as a risk taker, but reflecting on my career, I think it is clear that I have taken a few risks that have been pivotal to my life. I think the biggest risk I have ever taken was leaving my stable, corporate job to become a lactation consultant. My beliefs on risk-taking were formed from a young age by my parents and their experiences. When my brothers and I were children, my father used to always tell us “bet on yourself” rather than relying on any external sources for success. This inspired the leap of faith it took for me to start my own private practice and invest my time, energy and heart into building this business.
